Watch me play: Nuumonsters below!!
I found this pretty-much-a-pokemon-clone heavily discounted in the last Steam Summer Sale, and I have a thing for Retro Style monster collecting games so I added to the cart.
I played Nuumonsters without watching the trailer or reading the reviews, so I was actually surprised by how closely it followed the Pokemon formula... Though, the monsters are actually not living being, but AR programs according to the setting. I love how despite the setting being somewhat futuristic, the environment is a Pokemon rip off, and NPCs comment on how "old school" their city looks. The developers clearly had fun in pointing out the inconsistencies in their writing...
The game uses a reputation system called ELO that increases with battles, but at some point you need to fight Elites to increase yours. Monster capture is also inspired by Pokemon, but uses berries instead of balls.
I knew I won't play it until the end, but I played more than I thought I would, (beat 4 Elites so far,) and got my money's worth.~
