Hello everyone,
It’s another beautiful day to share our thoughts and experiences in words. I’m happy to share my thoughts and an experience I had about April fool, which happens to be the theme of the week.

April fool is an event that people observe on the first day of April by playing pranks and tricks on others. However, in my opinion, I feel April fool shouldn’t be encouraged because, over the years, it has caused harm to some people. I once witnessed an incident while in school that changed my perspective on this tradition.

When I was in 200 level at the university, I went to sit under a mango tree in the school premises to revise my notebook before my exams for the day. I wasn’t alone, other students from different faculties and departments were also there, studying. Suddenly, a guy sitting close to me picked up his ringing phone, and the next thing I saw was him in total confusion, shouting at the top of his voice, asking questions like: “Was the padlock broken? Is my laptop intact? What else was stolen?”

He was causing a distraction, so I couldn’t hold back and asked, “Chairman, what happened?” He then narrated how his roommate just called him, saying their room had been broken into and some valuable items were stolen.

From his expression, I could tell that those items meant a lot to him. He began explaining how he struggled to buy his laptop and how he needed it for his project next semester. He was confused and devastated. In the middle of his panic, he decided to call his parents and other close relatives to inform them of the situation. At that point, he could no longer focus on reading for his exams.

A few minutes later, his roommate called back and told him it was an April fool prank. I could see the anger in his eyes. Immediately, he picked up his books to rush home and confront his roommate, but unfortunately for him, it was already time for his exam. Still furious, he had no choice but to proceed to the exam hall.

I wasn’t the victim, but I felt the emotional torture he went through. I also wondered if his roommate even realized that he had an important exam that day.

Before that incident, I used to see April fool as something fun, but after witnessing that event, I began to dislike it. I have also heard of worse incidents that happened to other people in other places. I once had the story of a man who collapsed due to shock because he was told that the company he suffered for over the years was on fire. He lost his life due to the shock, all in the name of ‘April fool’.

In light of this, I believe April fool has done more harm than good in our society, and it should be abolished.

Thanks for reading through and I hope you enjoy my entry.

I would like to invite @oluthomas and @katezauka to also partake in other this week's prompt
