December being the lady month of the year is the month of merriment and relaxation to cool off from the year's stress and hardwork. It's also a month to show appreciation to love ones and also extend love to strangers.
Welcome to ladies of hive contest 163. If I am to gift anyone that i have no relationship with this December i will be giving the person a food hamper. This food hamper will contain groceries that will put food on their table atleast for the next two weeks. We are in a very tight economy and the prices of food are very expensive. Not many people can afford to put a decent meal on the table this December. I know how terrible it will be to stay without food in this festive period. The frustration of having nothing to cook when you can perceive the aroma of different families preparing many sweet delicacies to enjoy can give someone high blood pressure.
There was an incident that happened many years ago in my community when my father was still alive. He was someone that loved giving out food to the less privelege in the community especially during festive seasons. He normally buy groceries in big quantities then we will share them and distribute it to many families that need food. So on 25th December I went to visit the king with my father who happened to be one of the king's cabinet members. He also gifted the king a life goat. While going, the king gifted us two big fowls and 10 tubers of yam. As we were heading home, my father saw a small house and wondered if the occupants were around. He suggested we knock on their door and give them the remaining food hamper in the car. We shared food hampers to many families the previous day and one hamper was still remaining in the car.
When we knocked on the door, a woman opened and we exchanged season's greetings. My dad handled her the food hamper happily. She was fixated for few seconds starring at us. When she got herself back she collected it and muttered a dry thank you.
We went back to our car.
As we were about to drive out she ran out from her house and stopped us. This time she was in tears. She narrated how they have nothing to eat. Not even a grain of rice on that day being Christmas day. She kept on thanking my father and her three children also came out to see the man that gave them food. My father was deeply touched. He gave them one of the fowls that the king gave to him and also five tubers of the yam. This time around the woman fall down and started shouting in excitement.
When I went home, I pondered on this incident and it taught me many things. One of the lessons that it taught me was to give out food hamper to random people during Christmas. You never can tell the family that your gift will help them have a memorable festive season. I know a woman that does POS business around my area and she is going to be one of the beneficiaries of my Xmas food hamper. She will so much appreciate it and I know it will put smiles on her face this December.
