Music has an impact on the soul. Last year I went through my Spotify wrapped (I listen to all my music on the app) and in its analysis of my music taste it stated that I was a musical vampire. I found this funny, and I still do because it was right. Once in a while (a bit more than that) I enjoy listening to slow and sad music.

It started sometime around when I was in high school. I was in a pretty rough place at the time and the music felt soothing and relatable. Thankfully I am no longer in that place, but then I still enjoy listening to such types of music, not because I am still sad, but because it evokes warmth that I got used to and when I listen I feel this sort of nostalgic feeling which I like.

A while ago though, I noticed that all my playlists were quite similar, slow and sad. Then I decided to branch out and try more lively music, all sorts of genres and sounds. After listening to these new songs for about a week I realized something. My general mood was different. I'd never even thought so deeply about it, but for some reason listening to more uplifting music made me feel happier. Not that I was always sad when I was listening to sad music or happy when I was listening to happy music, but It affects my mood.

I remember this quote I saw somewhere (can't remember where) that said

If we could hear our moods it'd be in the form of music.

When I saw it, I didn't agree at first, but over time I have come to somewhat agree with the statement. Music can easily shape your mood.

Nowadays I try to mix up the type of music I listen to. Different genres, various tunes, generations, emotional, happy, sad, slow fast. As long as it's pleasant to the ear I am willing to listen to it. Bonus points when I am able to relate to the lyrics. It hits so hard and evokes that powerful emotion and feeling that just keeps me high or low depending on the song. Mixing it up has felt like a breath of fresh air for me, I have been constantly discovering new songs that I enjoy and I have been in a generally better mood as well so it's a win win.

I am curious, does the type of music you listen to also influence your mood, or am I just a black sheep/ outlier? It'd be interesting to hear what you think. I wouldn't mind a song recommendation as well. Looking forward to your comments
