I join the initiative of my friend @emiliorios The Christmas Challenge: For Seniors - Let's Bring Light! - On Seventh Day, Christmas is a time when families regularly gather to share and enjoy the school holidays in the company of grandchildren and other relatives who come together at the parents' house for this emotional celebration. This date has different meanings for each group of people in the family. Children, for example, eagerly await the gift from the baby Jesus. Parents are usually busy with errands, looking for gifts for the children, buying decorations, ornaments, ingredients for Christmas dinner, among other things. Older adults, for their part, enthusiastically await their children and grandchildren to come and visit them to share beautiful moments and brighten the home.
During this lovely season, offering senior citizens a different kind of Christmas is an excellent way to make these days pleasant and warm, and to create beautiful memories. At the church, there is a group of elderly people who enjoy helping with activities, but due to their advanced age, they are only assigned simple tasks to keep them active. For the Christmas dinner last week, they actively participated in making hallacas. The more active grandmothers organized themselves, cleaned the leaves, and helped cut the vegetables for the stew, leaving the younger ones to prepare the stew, following the instructions given by Mrs. Francys.
She likes to supervise the stew to make sure it turns out well. She always smiles when she says she's taught the girls, but she still has to keep a close eye on them so they don't miss a single detail. This lady has a real knack for cooking; with just a few ingredients, she can prepare delicious dishes. Due to her advanced age, she's now passed this task on to her daughter and the young women from the church, who follow her instructions so the hallacas retain that traditional flavor she's maintained for years. Once the stew is finished, they gather around the table to prepare the hallacas. Mrs. Francis supervises them, making sure they use the correct amount of dough, roll it out to the right thickness, and add enough filling to enjoy the hallacas. According to her own words, it's not about just throwing them together; they must be prepared with love and a delicious flavor so that all the visitors and family members can savor this delicacy of Venezuelan cuisine.

Hola amigos @holos-lotus, deseo que tengan un excelente y bendecido día en unión de sus seres queridos, me uno a la iniciativa del amigo @emiliorios El reto de Navidad: Para Adultos Mayores - ¡Aportemos Luz! - En Séptimo Día, la Navidad es una época donde regularmente la familia se reúne para compartir y disfrutar las vacaciones escolares en compañía de los nietos y demás familiares que coinciden en la casa de los padres para tan emotiva celebración, esta fecha tiene diferentes significados para cada grupo de personas en el núcleo familiar, los niños por ejemplo, esperan ansiosamente el regalo del niño Jesús, los padres por lo general andan ocupados en diligencias, buscando el regalo de los niños, comprando los adornos, decoraciones, los ingredientes para la cena navideña entre otros, los adultos mayores por su parte esperan con entusiasmo que sus hijos y nietos vengan a visitarlos para compartir hermosos momentos y alegrar el hogar.
En esta linda temporada, brindarle una navidad diferente a los adultos mayores, es una excelente opción para hacer que estos días sean agradables, cálidos y crear lindos recuerdos, en la iglesia hay un grupo de ancianos que les gusta colaborar en las actividades, pero por su avanzada edad solo se le asignan tareas sencillas para mantenerlos activos, para la realización de la cena navideña, la semana pasada, ellos participaron activamente en la elaboración de las hallacas, las abuelas más activas se organizaron, limpiaron las hojas y ayudaron a cortar los vegetales para el guiso, dejaron a las más jóvenes preparar el guiso, eso sí, siguiendo las instrucciones que la señora Francys va indicando.
A ella le gusta supervisar el guiso para que quede bien, siempre sonríe al decir, que ha enseñado a las muchachas, pero siempre debe estar pendiente, para que no se les pase ningún detalle y es que esta señora tiene una gran habilidad para cocinar, con pocos ingredientes puede preparar deliciosos platillos; debido a su avanzada edad ya ha dejado esta tarea a su hija y las jóvenes de la iglesia, quienes siguen sus instrucciones para que las hallacas conserven ese sabor tradicional, que ella ha mantenido durante varios años; al terminar el guiso, se ubicaron en la mesa para preparar las hallacas, la señora Francis estuvo supervisando que colocarán la cantidad de masa correcta, estiraran con el grosor adecuado y colocar relleno suficiente para disfrutar las hallacas, no se trata según sus propias palabras, de hacerlas por salir del paso, se deben preparar con amor y con un delicioso sabor, para que todos los visitantes y miembros de la familia degusten este manjar de la cocina venezolana.
When it came time to make the hallacas, Francys and Carmen took charge, placing the portions of dough so that they were all the same size. They are really active and don't miss a single detail. While they were around the table supervising, I simply watched them and thought about how, despite their advanced age, they remain active and do their best to help prepare the hallacas and the Christmas dinner menu.
As for the salad preparation, Carmen has a special secret ingredient: she adds small cubes of apple and onion, which give it a delicious flavor and a crunchy texture. The bread is prepared one or two days in advance, wrapped in a cloth, and then covered with a plastic bag. This keeps the bread soft and helps concentrate the flavor of the raisins, olives, and ham. Watching these lovely grandmothers work is a beautiful experience. I would pause for several minutes to admire the dedication with which they attend to every single step in the hallaca-making process.
Al momento de hacer las hallacas, Francys y Carmen tomaron la batuta de colocar las porciones de masa para que quedaran del mismo tamaño, son realmente activas y no se les escapa ningún detalle; mientras ellas estaban por la mesa supervisando, simplemente las observaba y pensaba cómo a pesar de su avanzada edad se mantienen activas y hacen lo posible por colaborar en la preparación de las hallacas y el menú de la cena navideña.
En cuanto a la preparación de la ensalada, Carmen tiene un ingrediente secreto especial, agrega pequeños cubos de manzana y cebolla, que le dan un sabor y toque crocante a la ensalada; en cuanto al pan lo preparan con uno o dos días de anterioridad, lo envuelven en un paño y encima del paño una bolsa plástica, esto mantiene al pan suave y se concentra el sabor de las pasas aceitunas y jamón, ver a estas lindas abuelas trabajando es una experiencia muy bonita, durante varios minutos hacía pausas para admirar la dedicación con la que ellas están pendientes de cada paso de cada de cada paso en el proceso de elaboración de las hallacas.
Working with these lovely grandmothers is a wonderful experience, and they are also an example of dedication, strength, and love for preserving traditions and family unity. Every year for the church dinner, they participate in the process of preparing the food, although they are not as active as in previous years, they remain attentive to ensure that the food retains its homemade flavor made with lots of love.
Giving grandparents the opportunity to participate in Christmas activities is a way to keep them busy and make them feel valued. Letting them know their opinion matters, asking for their advice or suggestions on decorating and cooking makes them feel important—and they are! Their advice is invaluable, given their years of experience cooking and preparing meals. Their tips are the best for making each Christmas dinner a memorable moment. I invite @evelin71 and @brujita18 to join this wonderful initiative, where our grandparents are the stars and deserve a special place. They have lived many years and deserve to be pampered and included. Perhaps they aren't as active as they used to be due to their age, or they don't have the same strength, but considering them, asking for their opinions, and maybe even giving them a special gift will make them feel happier and more loved by their families.
Trabajar con estas simpáticas abuelas, es una linda experiencia y además son un ejemplo de dedicación, fortaleza y amor por conservar las tradiciones y la unión familiar, cada año para la cena de la iglesia ellas participan en el proceso de elaboración y preparación de la comida, aunque no son tan activas como en años anteriores, siguen atentas para que la comida conserve su sabor casero hecho con mucho amor.
Brindarle a los abuelos la oportunidad de participar en las actividades navideñas, es una forma de mantenerlos ocupados y que se sientan tomados en cuenta, hacerles saber que su opinión también cuenta, pedirles consejos o sugerencias para decorar, cocinar los hace sentir importantes y de hecho lo son, pues sus consejos son muy valiosos, dada la experiencia en los años que tienen cocinando y preparando las comidas, sus consejos son los más acertados para hacer de cada cena navideña un momento memorable, invito a @evelin71 y @brujita18, a sumarse a esta hermosa iniciativa, donde los protagonistas y quienes merecen ocupar un lugar importante son nuestros abuelos, ya ellos han vivido varios años y merecen ser consentidos y tomados en cuenta, tal vez, no sean tan activos como antes por la edad, no tienen la misma fuerza, pero tomarlos en cuenta, pedirles opinión y por qué no darles un obsequio especial, los hará sentir más felices y queridos por sus familias.
