Social media or the internet is actually not totally outside school's jurisdiction because it's today's world and I see a lot of schools coming out on social media to promote why their schools are the best for kids to attend. If the staffs and students will identify themselves to the school, they have to be responsible about their contents.
The school will struggle if viewers find a student or staff with a social media profile that doesn't speak anything good about who they are, but are identifying that they belong to the school. Today's world is filled with criticism more than before, schools coming out online should be ready for that and also inform their staffs and students.
Nowadays it is the era of social media, in such a situation it is very difficult to hide yourself, if you are a person of very social type then probably you do not use any kind of social media platform, I also use many media platforms, I use only those platforms which are needed and that too in limited quantity, not much. Look then, everyone is not the same, everyone thinks in a different way and everyone has a different lifestyle.
Nowadays it has become difficult to keep one's life private because there are so many things around us that we all have fallen into them a lot and in such a situation it has become a little difficult to save ourselves from all these things. Although many people keep their social media life private and they allow only a few selected people to enter their space, but there are some people who want more followers and want to become influencers, due to which they keep their account open and in such a situation anyone can see their profile.
But in such a situation many disadvantages also come to the fore. See, many times a person shares their thoughts on there social media which is their profile, there are such messages which they speaks about a particular person but they does not want it to reach them. (I believe if you are sharing something online then it is not private or safe at all.
Why do the school wants to monitor them?
Because they want to know what kind of teachers works in their school or what kind of students they have in their school. I believe that this is the personal life of the teacher. How he chooses to live his life outside school is non of their business. What the teacher is paid for os only the hours spent in school and I believe that the teacher should be of his best behavior while in school. If by any means the school discovered that the teacher is not living up to their standard, then he or she should be relieved of the teaching job. That is just how I see it.
Even for the students, we can only do our best as teachers to inculcate good morals into them while they are still with us. We can't control them just because we want the best for them. No student will want to be controlled in such manners. We all should be allowed to use our human rights.
We have the right to life and join any organization we want and what have you. Id that right is taken away from teachers then what about others who are not teachers? If actually we want to do this, then let it affects everyone no matter what you do. Be it teaching, preaching, politician, engineers, doctors, lawyers, pilot, drivers and what have you. Let everyone feel the pain of it. Then it will be accepted. Teachers should be taken care of by the government and not putting a law that makes their lives miserable.
