It all started with a Russian propaganda campaign. They spread this kind of rumor online. "Russia is destroying secret Ukrainian biological laboratories. Americans, Ukrainian Americans, are a danger, that is why they have been forced to invade Ukraine." but that era, of course, was not and is not the real reason, nor is it even what Russia is saying now.
