Greetings, Splinter fans!

Yes. Splinterlands just got even better! The Rebellion edition packs general sale has begun and the new cards, abilities and tactics are finally in play. In this post, I will go through some of my new cards, their use cases and my future plans. Let's have a look!

So, at the moment I could only afford to buy three Rebellion packs that I ripped right open. I didn't get anything really fancy like gold foil or legendary cards (or GF legendary!🤩) but I did receive some that turned out to have a good trading value.

SATHA TOLEDO was the most expensive and rarest one I got. This Epic card is currently valued at $2.20 on the market but I remember it being even a bit more expensive yesterday.

An Earth Splinter tank healer unit isn't exactly what I'm currently missing out so I decided to sell this one and use the DEC to further build my powerful Water Magic deck.

THANALORIAN SCION, on the other hand, had one of these cool new abilities, Corrosive Ward and an older one - Void Armor.

Thanks to that, our enemies will have to go through her 10-point armour first before they can reduce her health which is essential as she has only 1 point of health.

Having also only 1 speed and 1 magic attack might make her look weak at first sight but this is a defensive unit whose Corrosive Ward ability is meant against Melee units.

If Thanalorian Scion is hit with a Melee attack, it will cause the attacker +2 damage and also reduce their max armour by 2. As for that weak magic, I'm usually playing with Alric Stormbringer who will then boost it to 2 points so that won't be an issue.

  • At the time of writing this, Thanalorian Scion cost about $1 less than Satha Toledo and is now trading at $1.49.

Another Card I Just Had To Get...

In my previous Rebellion-themed post I was writing about Moxian Rebel and was already planning some strategies using the card.

Unfortunately, I didn't get one from those three packs I bought so I used the DEC I got from the Satha Toledo trade to add to my Water deck.

Weapons Training is such a great ability and to have it on a card that costs only 4 mana is even better! If you didn't know this, the Weapons Training ability will give the unit's attack to adjacent monsters who haven't got an attack strength of their own.

So, with Alric's +2 summoner buff, I plan to start dominating low-mana battles with Moxian Rebel accompanied by two no-attack one-mana monsters. Note that since Rebel is a Neutral card I can very well use it with Obsidian and Earth Splinter combinations too. Such an awesome card and a must-have for all +1 magic summoner buff fans.

By the time of writing this, the cheapest Moxian Rebel was costing $1.15 on the market.

The Old Meets The New

Acquiring Moxian Rebel opened up the door for a great alliance between the new Rebellion unit and the older cards such as CREEPING OOZE and CHAOS AGENT.

Placing these three fragile magic units somewhere safe in the middle will allow them to take part in the offensive for a longer time. It's also noteworthy to mention that even if the Weapons Training unit should die, it will not remove the attack from the adjacent monsters unlike before.

As I mentioned, this strategy is very good in low mana battles as Moxian Rebel costs only 4 mana points. As for the weapons trainees, my setup here includes Creeping Ooze and Chaos Agent which are both 1 mana monsters so the total cost of these three units is only 6 mana points.

With this and Alric's buff, I got a total of 6 points worth of magic attacks plus their abilities of course. As you can imagine, this strategy can be extremely deadly in 12 mana battles for example but it can also be used in a bit higher mana battles such as in this demonstration.

With this much magic attack, I got to remove my opponent's Djinn Oshunnus health faster which gave me the edge as they had no way of attacking my strong but cheap mid-section.

Change In Tank Healing Strategy

Image from thread

Every good team needs a tank healer but instead of using MERDAALI GUARDIAN, I usually choose the Crustacean King which has a ranged attack and armour.

However, this might soon change as Merdaali Guardian is a non-attack unit which means she would gain +2 magic attack with Moxian Rebel and Alric making her a healer with a very good offensive strength.

Not bad at all. That's definitely something to think about.

My Next Move

Image from thread

If had to choose my absolute favourite ones of the new Rebellion cards, besides Moxian Rebel, I would probably rank GOBALANO SOLDIER quite high.

This Fire Splinter has not only the sneak ability but also a new one, Ambush, that will allow this soldier to perform an attack even before the whole battle starts.

With a melee attack boosting summoner such as Tarsa, Gobalano Soldier could very well take out an enemy backline monster giving us a significant advantage. It is also quite fast meaning it won't be long until it will attack again.

Gobalano Soldier is a common card but I'm pretty sure other players have noticed its usefulness as it is not on the cheaper end of the card market. In fact, it is even more expensive than some of the Rare Rebellion cards.

The current market price of Gobalano Soldier is $0.27.

My plan is to monitor the price development of this card for a while hoping it will come down a bit but I most definitely will be upgrading it at some point.

Conclusion

One approach to acquiring new Rebellion cards could be to keep in mind the new staking system, Conflicts, and for example, buy cheaper cards and upgrade those to the highest possible level.

However, I have chosen a different plan and will be targeting the ones mentioned above. The main reason for this is of course their utility in game play and as the staked cards can still be used in battles, I believe this strategy will be a win-win for me.

Which cards you are the most excited about? Drop a comment below!

Thank you for reading.
