The heights that science has reached are unprecedented. Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen leaps and bounds in the world of science. The world is improving at an astronomical rate. We have cars that run on electricity, we have smart homes and devices that can be controlled remotely by our phones, and we have individuals sending rockets to space and making plans to colonize other planets.
The world is going crazy with the number of changes we’ve been seeing. And it’s only getting better! Thanks to science, people can take care of themselves better. We have better medical health options, and we have better tools for security. Life expectancy has increased over the course of the last few years due to how safe science has made humanity.

But then, it’s not all that good because the very things that make life so enjoyable end up being the ones also endangering lives. The weapons that are designed to protect a country end up devastating another country that the former doesn’t like. Bombs and nukes are the products of science, even in biological warfare. It can’t be possible without science.
Now, while one might say that such things are necessary in the safeguarding of a nation, and I might be inclined to agree, it doesn’t mean that I have to like it. Weapons might just be a necessary evil for all because seeing as no other country will be willing to give up and destroy their weapons, so everyone will definitely be holding on tight to theirs. It's just the way of the world.

For me, I also personally don’t agree with one particular advancement of science. And that’s how easy it can be for someone to make major changes to their bodies. Thanks to science, anyone who can afford it can switch from being a man to a woman, and vice versa. Anyone can decide to get a butt-lift or a nose-job. For no reason at all.
Of course, I understand that some of these procedures could be essential from time to time. I know that some people do cosmetic surgeries after a particularly terrible accident, and trying to get their original looks back would require a cosmetic surgeon. So, it might be needed. However, now that every Tom, Dick, and Lisa can get cosmetic surgery, it just feels like it’s being abused.
I heard of a Nigerian celebrity who did the BBL and, after a few years, returned under the knife to get rid of it. Other start, and then keep making it bigger. Sometimes, it’s done so well that if you don’t know them prior to the surgery, you won’t even notice it. Other times, the job is clearly done by a quack who made a mess of things.

People need to learn that you can be happy and fulfilled with the body that God gave to you. And if for any reason you decide to go under the knife, don’t do it because you want people to see you in a certain way, just do it because it’s what you want. Because if you keep dancing to the music that people play, you’ll find yourself switching dance steps every Eke market day because people can never be satisfied.
So, this is one advancement that I don’t agree with. I don’t agree that some people feel like, without getting surgery, they can’t be viewed as beautiful. That’s messing with our mental health on a large scale, and it could get bad enough that future generations would see cosmetic surgeries like vaccination. Not getting it at all would make you look uncool and weird.
This is the world we’re heading to. I sure hope not.
