How do gender roles, male and female — differ in your family?

Each family have it's roles when it comes for gender. They work that belongs to male child and a female child. I don't know or can't tell about other countries but, am sure that most places in Nigeria, their is this general belief that most of the kitchen works belongs to women while hustling to feed the family solely belongs to men. Am not actually here to talk about other families in Nigeria but about my own families opinion when it comes for gender roles in a family. Hoping you are following up, this is my family gender roles .Growing up in a family of 10 including our parents, i wasn't the first, second or even the third child. So, because of that, i didn't start family chores earlier enough. And at the age of 8, i left to stay with my Aunt in the city. At the age of 12th, i came back home to stay with my parents and with the few years of staying with my family, we have this gender roles in my family. My dad whom find it difficult to have a male child after giving birth to 4 girls believes that his only son needs to be pampered. After our first son, they had more two girls which is me and my immediate younger sister before their last child who is a male child. That means, we are total of 6 ladies and two boys. But one lady is late now, leaving us 5 girls, 2 boy's. Because of the way my parents searched for a male child, they don't joke with them. They believe that sending their only hard earned two son's to an errand will be kind of stressing them. Though my parents doesn't have money, they pampered my brothers. All the house chores was in the shoulders of the females while the male's only eats and relax. Glad am the fifth child, they didn't bother me with chores because the first four sister are taking care of everything. So, both the boys and we the junior one's doesn't have much roles to perform in my family. I will only send to minor works like, pointing of light's etc. When i finally comes of age, the same pattern continued. The females take care of the kitchen while the boys assist in fetching of waters, fetching of fire woods with the girls. When it comes for farming, it's left for the ladies while the boy's play about in the farm. My late mon won't bother her last born to so anything. This pattern is not really helpful because it really affected our first son. When he became a man and my parents finally needs his assistance in some hard house chores, he refused to help because he is not used to it.As for me, i won't follow up with my family gender roles, i will trained both genders to master all house chores either it's kitchen or farming work. It will really be of help to me when the girls get married. The boys can take over the kitchen easily because they are used to it.
