Where is this popular saying, "Charity begins at home"? Over the years, this phrase is more than enough to justify them helping family members whenever an opportunity arises. You are in a position of empowering people or giving employment; it is normal you want your loved ones to benefit from it. To be honest, the majority of us will recommend or trust a sibling, friend, or any other relative for an opportunity, not minding if such a person is capable or not.
To be honest, there is a line between offering someone a fair opportunity and giving them an unfair advantage; this is where nepotism begins. Nepotism simply means favoring a relative or close friend in promotions, contracts, employment, or any opportunity because of your personal relationship with them rather than them working to get such a position in the world we are in today. Nepotism is no longer a new thing.
Here comes the big question: Should nepotism be criminalized?
In my own opinion every act of nepotism should be considered a crime. But making it a universal crime will be very difficult because families naturally stand by each other; parents often recommend their kids, and business owners often prepare their kids to inherit family businesses. People who are at the top place their siblings, relatives, and close friends at the top; that is why it seems as if the poor keep getting poorer every day.
This is where the real problem begins: when the abuse of institutional power or public office by denying qualified candidates a fair chance. When a manager hires unqualified relatives and ignores competent candidates or when a government worker awards contracts or gives employment to his family member alone, that's when you will say the issue is no longer just favoritism; it is an abuse of power and trust. In situations like this there should be legal consequences, more especially when it has to deal with public resources.

Sincerely, it’s human nature to want the best for their loved ones. Parents work very hard so that their children will enjoy opportunities they didn’t enjoy and go as far as building relationships that their children will enjoy in the future. Mentors introduce people within their networks, and friends open doors for their friends. Inasmuch as we want the best for our loved ones, there should be fairness. The moment people realize that success depends more on knowing than on what they can do, motivation will decline; hardworking employees will be discouraged because their effort is not noticed. Graduates lose hope after repeated rejection. Organizations will suffer when a position is filled with unqualified individuals; it will lead to poor productivity and poor decision-making.
There is nothing bad in opening doors for people you know, but there is something wrong if you lock those doors against everyone else.
