I feel each one of us should give something back to the society. For example, I am associated with a trust which is a religious trust. But they do a lot of welfare activities like running a hospital, giving free food for 1 lakh people every day and other things. And since I can't directly go to every other person for helping, I actually donate to them and they give back to the society from their welfare activities.

I know there are a lot of scam also happens in the name of donations but the trust which I am associated with are not a scam because they are transparent on what they are doing as well as you can go and stay in the ashram for free to know about all the activities. I feel giving back to the society should be done by everyone. Like if we can donate atleast 0.1% to 1% of what we are earning everyone to a good cause then it's really good.
A lot of people cannot have 2 times of food leave alone anything else. So even if we can feed them atleast 1 time daily which the trust is doing then actually it's quite good. Along with that if you are donating to a Gurudwara then also it's a great thing because Gurudwara also does the same thing. Anyone can go are eat in Gurudwara.
Now I don't give money to te beggar as such but giving like this is actually better. I have heard stories that beggars don't actually use the money to eat, they try to do other activities with the money so you are doing more bad than good. I am not saying that all the beggars are bad or does this activity. But instead of money of we can give food then it's a better option in my opinion.
