My taste in supernatural shows leans heavily toward vampires, though most of what I watch just happens to fall under that umbrella rather than being the sole reason I pick a series. I've gone through the obvious ones like True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, but my real hidden gem is The Originals. I hadn't touched it in about five years and went back recently just to see how it held up against newer shows. I was genuinely surprised by how well the story progressed, even with those random flashback cuts to different eras that used to bug me a bit. My main focus these days is shows from after 2010, since I want something with a more modernized feel rather than the older tropes.

Midnight Mass sits at the top for me when it comes to blending supernatural elements with horror. It's a short limited series, but it delivers a story about sacrifice and reimagines vampirism as something closer to a demonic force, and the writing is genuinely excellent throughout. For long running shows, What We Do in the Shadows is the only real comedy in this genre and I love every second of it. It's an easy must watch. If you want something with more world building, A Discovery of Witches is worth trying too, since it explores a whole society where vampires and witches coexist and operate under their own rules.
What really cemented my love for this genre though is Interview with the Vampire. It has some modern touches that occasionally feel a little out of place against the original tone, but as a whole package it captures everything great about Anne Rice's storytelling, the romanticism, the sense of longevity, all of it. What pushes it even further for me is the sequel, The Vampire Lestat, which builds beautifully on where Interview with the Vampire left off, carrying that same voice forward into something even richer.
