Yesterday we took the grandkids out to a nearby garden nursery (40 minutes away) and had a relaxing morning. Granny wanted to by plants or should I say trees as she wants plums, nectarines, oranges to go along with her lemon trees that she has been growing for the last two years. The trees they had would not fit in the car so I got off lightly and reminded her how close this garden nursery was to home that next time shop closer to home in case of delivery costs. I could not let that go as I only agreed to the trip when told it was not far away.
Not sure what this tree was, but the bigger trees in these 500l grow bags were R5500 each with a 20% discount and have no idea how these would be delivered as they just seem too big for even trucking. Look at the other trees in the distance as these are not small and trees you would normally find at your average garden nursery. The fruit trees were not quite as big, but the stock they do not sell this year will be much bigger next year until they are too big to sell.
Instead of looking at the plants we got side tracked with a farm petting zoo inside the nursery which turned out this was originally a farm that has been converted into multiple little businesses. The nursery had thousands of different fruit trees that were large enough to be bearing decent sized fruit.
The one idea we liked was the use of old cattle troughs as raised garden beds and if granny starts buying Farmers Weekly I should expect some deliveries. The old Chevy truck seemed like a waste of a display and would make a good fixer upper project. Guys tend to look at things differently as my eyes were drawn to the truck first before the cattle troughs.
The petting zoo was actually quite cool and more importantly the grand kids loved feeding the animals with the purchased animal feed.
My grandson has very bad eyesight and is so bad he is legally blind yet surprises us all the time how much he can see so for him having the animals up close was a real treat and thrill. The hope is one day in the future there will be the medical technology to help make him have better vision and expect this will happen.
The children's play area had something called Jumping Pillows which is a type of trampoline along the lines of a jumping castle. This is not something I have ever seen before and had no idea that they have been around for 40 years already having originated from Denmark back in the mid eighties. What I particularly liked about this is that there are no springs and this is far safer than the standard trampolines we see. Most likely they are too pricey for residential use and why trampolines are far more common.
