One of the most respected set of law enforcing bodies in our country is ‘The Nigerian Road safety’ department. I mean, this people don't stand with guns but you have to see how everyone will coordinate themselves with their cars to avoid being victims. It is something that is worth applied in yet another aspect of this country but before then, let's walk around the entire article.
Maybe I should first start with the situation report. Three days straight and our clouds have been heavy. Yes, the downpour continues and we are still facing slow business days. Ok, I have talked about how the entire situation has also converted into damages. Heavy floods have swept into waterlogged areas and it has been very inconveniencing.
I heard such a report that the entire situation has converted loss of life (one recorded) and the person is aged. I can understand how such a situation can convert into that. Just imagine heavy water flooding into your apartment while you are still sleeping. Secondly, the person is advanced in age and also looking at maybe there was no one around to help out.
I am trying to build to where we are heading to in this entire article. Damages have been done and this is just a tip of I have seen. So the question here is; who can be held responsible? Many will assume nature is doing its thing but we also have to admit that, we as humans have a big part to play. Coming back to ourselves, we can either talk of the government and or the citizens.
I will be building in this article from the latter; ‘ignorance or carelessness of citizens individually and collectively amounts to disaster. At least I can say the government has played a huge part in road constructions in our state and we still pray for more.

Nevertheless, we have to consider the issues of mismanagement. I can't really say the government will have to fully take care of this facilities or constructions. The gutters are unkept and to start with, why are citizens even throwing waste into gutters that are supposed to be water runways?.
Road side sellers and kiosks are taking an inconvenient advantage to dump things inside the gutter. Consider what this will amount to overtime. This is something that has been talked over again and again but people keep giving deaf ears.
Maybe because it is not happening instantaneously does not mean it is not accumulating. Water has its rules; ‘give me a path or I will make one for myself’. It has been the current issue and during hours of heavy downpour two nights ago, it resulted in disaster.
To conclude, let me add, it still boils down to, will they learn? It was something I was discussing with someone this morning and his reply was, this is not an easy thing to accomplish with people who just care less about proper management.
Many times we feel we haven't done any damage to people around us but our carelessness has already gone a long way. Just imagine how much waste you’ve been putting into the runway gutter and how it amounted to damage to someone’s property in the course of time.
A lot of sensitization needs to be put across to the citizens and better still also enforce a government established team to see to this. Putting things like fines and bailout charges can cause many to sit up.
The idea is not to prioritize the arrest to pass out a clear message that we have an obligation to keep our environment clean and safe. There is a price for carelessness and we need to avoid such.
