As we have decided to enter into a new revolution, or will I say generation now, there is a new thing that is on the block which is called the cancel culture and it goes this way. So let's say somebody did something wrong, maybe is not accepted into social circles, something that is not right in the eyes of the law. What people now do these days is to cancel them entirely out of existence. There career, family, profession, friends and everything.

That means anything they do, it will surely have a backlash. This kind of a thing is very terrible and it can go suicidal and as far as threatening people with life and death scenario, it is possible to build a career for years and everything can just keep crashing down in just few hours because of cancel culture. If one post decide to go viral against what you intended it to be and people become angry, then screenshots and different snippets and twisted version of that thing that you have said is all over the internet.

Company will immediately distance themselves from you and friends will look at you from afar. Then suddenly the internet is becoming a judge, a jury and the executioner because the entire social media people are going to be on your neck and it's not going to be a funny thing. Though there is a question that we all need to ask.

Where does accountability ends and the mob justice begins? I don't think that people should be protected from any consequence of their actions. Also, even if we are going to execute judgment on a particular case of someone that does something wrong, it shouldn't go as far as cancelling the entire person. Some cancel culture can even go as far as targeting the siblings and family of that person.

Some can be so terrible to the point that if you don't align with their political view or stuff like that, immediately people want to cancel your show, cancel your program, they don't even want to watch you in the movie anymore. I personally believe that if you have done something wrong, the law should be made to take effect and immediately the law is made to take effect. It does not affect any other aspect of your life.

So, it is possible to be charged with a rape case, then you go to prison for the charges. Your career, your family stays intact. So, things should be independent of itself.

That is how it should be but not in this 2026. There are several people that have fallen under this sledgehammer of cancel culture and the first one is Ed Sheeran who is a popular musician. Just because he decided to distance himself from politics and all this free Palestine stuff, this guy had a friend who came on the show and started shouting free Palestine.

Though Ed Sheeran later tried to curb the matter but everything went out of hand and now the entire internet community want to cancel Ed Sheeran of which Ed Sheeran to go ahead with his show and he still pulled out a large number of spectators in the stadium. Should people still be allowed to continue punishing the person indefinitely? No, no one is supposed to carry any burden of their sin for the rest of their life. If there is a punishment doled out by the court of law, the person should submit himself to that but that does not mean that the family, the work, the career, everything is under threat.

Though there is a difference between protecting people and permanently destroying someone's ability to exist in our society. It is normal to punish but it should not be permanent and there should still be a space for redemption. Human beings can change so we shouldn't write anybody off and decide to act as if we are the one that has the cleanest hand.

I understand that forgiveness also does not mean that pretending that something never happened. You forgive, the scar of that wrongdoing is still there and it can be opened at any point in time. Punishment should have its own purpose and immediately the person that did the wrong thing is punished.

Cancel culture should not be entertained. Whenever you are revenging, that means you want someone to suffer for what has been done. Another level of cancel culture is the ability to dig out someone's past on social media and make your digital footprints then use it against you.

A joke that you said in a wrong way, a mistake that you overlook, people can dig it up and start to twist it over and blast it right in your face and tell everyone to distance themselves from you that you are this kind of a bad person. If you are not careful, you might drown in this depressive ocean of cancel culture. So what you have to do is to make sure that you have appropriate evidence at every point in time and have the authority at your beck and call.

Then refuse to support the kind of people that their action does not go in line with your life's value. That's the only way you can escape this kind of a thing. Cancel culture has taught us that we should be careful about what we become and what we are becoming and the things that we stand with and we oppose.

If we are not careful, many of these stand politically, financially or in the general world wise can affect who you are in the nearest future because if we allow the crowd to become the court. You should also ask yourself one frightening question which is what if the crowd are even wrong and the cancel culture has already been implemented, then who goes down? Have you ever felt behind in life? I have done that several times. If I say that I haven't, then that would be a lie.
