It's that time of the year when the leaves begin to change, the air becomes refreshing and that familiar holiday excitement starts to bubble within. But for many of us, the festive season also brings forth a mix of emotions, particularly when it comes to finances.

Are we going to be prioritizing lavish celebrations and gift-giving, or are we going to be focused on financial responsibility and prudence? This is the question I want us to ponder on.
This December, just like every other December, I find myself caught in the same internal tug-of-war. On one hand, I want a comfortable home adorned with twinkling lights, the aroma of delicious meals filling the air, and the joy of sharing laughter and gifts with loved ones. But on the other hand, the weight of financial obligations and the desire for long-term stability act as an opposition to my festive desires.
So guys, what would a budget conscious soul like me going to do? As difficult as the answer to this question is, I think it's simpler than I imagined putting in cognizance what we are passing through in Nigeria. Nobody want to spend more than they earn so instead of yielding to the pressure of excessive spending, I've decided to embrace a different approach to the holidays. This is an approach that prioritizes creativity, connection, and experiences over material possessions.
Firstly, I'm embracing the spirit of DIY. I am going to be channelling my inner artist to creating ornaments, garlands, and even greeting cards with my own hands. I wouldn't disturb myself going to the store to buy expensive decorations. Trust me guys, this won't only save my money but it would also add a personal touch to my holiday decorations.
Next, I'm rethinking the concept of gatherings. I'm planning potluck-style get-togethers where everyone contributes a dish instead of hosting elaborate feasts. I believe this would even go as far as promoting a sense of community and also allowing me to enjoy meals from various kitchens, thereby keeping the costs manageable. Don't you see it's a win-win situation?.. ๐
So guys, moving beyond the exchange of gifts which has become our tradition, I will be focusing on the gift of experiences. This could be a movie marathon with homemade food, or simply an evening of board games and laughter with friends and family. Trust me guys, these shared moments will definitely create a lasting memory without me worrying about my account.
Financial responsibility of course remains a important part of my December plans. Trust me, I have carefully drafted a budget and I am carefully tracking my spending to ensure I stay within my limits. So you know guys, I'm certainly not immune to the spirit of the holiday season, it's just that I am choosing to approach it with a conscious awareness and a touch of creativity so I wouldn't go broke.
So guys, my focus this December will be on spreading joy and fostering meaningful connections and not about accumulating material possessions. So tell me, are you planning a grand celebration, or are you just focusing on being prudent? I will be waiting for your answer in the comment section.
So guys, let's embrace the magic of December together while we remain mindful of our financial well-being. Let's not forget to create a supportive space where we can celebrate the season regardless of our financial circumstances. Happy holidays.
