Every week, new releases hit the Netflix platform, many of which become huge hits simply because they feature compelling, exciting storylines and young characters who add that special touch. But everything changes with the new series called The Boroughs: Rebel Retirement, where the concept is to cast a group of retirees in a sci-fi production—a brilliant idea that works for these directors precisely because it stands out from other films in the genre.
The series takes us to New Mexico, which is the perfect setting to explore, and many people today are drawn to that place. However, everything changes when they discover that something strange is happening in the streets and homes—such as disappearances and unexplained phenomena—leading these seniors to investigate. And this is where the questions arise: How is this happening? Who is behind it all?
Cada semana llegan nuevos estrenos en la gran plataforma de Netflix la cual muchos de ellos se convierten en todo un éxito, por el mismo hecho de contar con una trama atractiva, emocionante y a la vez personajes jóvenes que le dan ese toque especial. Pero todo cambia con la nueva serie llamada The Boroughs: Jubilación rebelde, donde la idea es colocar a un grupo de jubilados en una producción de ciencia ficción, la cual es un gran idea que le funciona a estos directores por el mismo hecho de ser diferente a otras películas del género.
La serie lleva a Nuevo México, donde es perfecto para así poder conocer y muchas personas hoy en día se van para ese lugar, sin embargo, aquí todo cambia cuando descubren que algo extraño ocurre entre sus calles y sus casas, como desapariciones, fenómenos inexplicables, lo cual lleva a esas personas mayores a descubrirlo y es aquí donde nos pregunta ¿Cómo ocurre eso?, ¿Quién estará detrás de todo eso?.
One of the things I liked about this series—and what makes it so entertaining—is the characters, beyond the mysteries that unfold. Since they’re older characters, they’ve all lived through a lot; they’ve experienced both losses and victories, and they know exactly what decisions to make. Each of these details adds a touch of laughter and humor episode after episode. In this way, the series aims to show that getting older doesn’t mean you stop having adventures—especially in the world of cinema.
Each scene is very well crafted, keeping the viewer hooked, and the town itself seems to be frozen in time, making it the perfect setting for a story where reality begins to crack little by little. Another aspect is how they incorporate science fiction, showing that anyone could face such a situation, and successfully shifting the pacing throughout the series.
Una de las cosas que me gusto de esta serie y la hace divertida son los personajes, más allá de los misterios que ocurren. Al ser personajes mayores todos ya cuentan con una gran cantidad de años encima, han perdido y han ganado, como también saber que decisión tomar y cada uno de esos detalles le ese toque de risa y humor episodio tras episodio. Logrando así que la serie buscar mostrar que envejecer no significa dejar de vivir aventuras y más aún en el mundo del cine.
Cada una de las escenas están muy bien trabajadas, logrando que el espectador se enganche, al igual que la comunidad parece estar fuera del tiempo y eso permite que sea el escenario perfecto para una historia donde la realidad comienza a resquebrajarse poco a poco. Otras de las cosas es como logran incluir el tema de ciencia ficción demostrando que cualquiera persona puede llegar a enfrentar eso, logrando cambiar distintos ritmos durante la serie.
I really liked The Boroughs: Rebel Retirement, as it offers something different on the platform, proving that great adventures know no age limits—and it’s far more interesting to watch a group of adults figure out how to face the end of the world than a group of young people. So while it may not be the best in the sci-fi genre, it’s perfect for bringing a smile to your face and has enough personality to stand out among today’s series.
Me gusto mucho el resultado de The Boroughs: Jubilación rebelde, ya que es algo distinto para ver en la plataforma demostrando que las grandes aventuras no tienen fechas y es mucho más interesante ver a un grupo de adultos ver cómo enfrentaran el fin del mundo que un grupo de jóvenes. Por eso no será lo mejor del género de ciencia ficción, pero perfectamente para sacarte una sonrisa y con suficiente personalidad como para destacar entre las series actuales.
