Hola, amigos.
Hello, friends. On this Tuesday’s “Talent Gathering,” our friend @angelica7 invites us to reflect on a topic that prompts us to think about well-being, peace of mind, and those small daily habits that recharge our energy and enhance our quality of life; it’s called “The 100-Year Journey.”
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how quickly time flies; I feel like I’m getting older, approaching old age, and I’ve been wondering: Will I live to be 100? But I also think that, if I do reach that age, I want to be healthy and self-sufficient—able to walk, keep a sharp memory, and maintain my energy. So, when thinking about the goal of reaching 100, the inevitable question is: How do you achieve that? What’s the secret formula?

For me, longevity isn’t just about adding up calendars or years—it’s about how we live each day in good health, and what matters most is how we fill those days with life, purpose, and well-being.
That’s why I want to share some things I do personally that I consider important for cultivating a fulfilling life full of happiness—and in that way, hopefully making it to 100, although I don’t really want to go that far. To that end, the first thing that comes to mind is good nutrition—eating delicious, healthy food—since it’s an act of self-love. It’s not that I’m going to forbid myself from eating certain things, but rather that I want to return to our roots, to what’s natural, to those fresh flavors, to cooking at a leisurely pace, enjoying the aromas in the kitchen, and choosing ingredients that give us energy and a sense of well-being.

Another thing is to think about how I can help my soul; to do that, I would read books that surround me with constructive thoughts and help me grow and reflect. Likewise, I would treat myself to moments of silence while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea; that seems to me to be a powerful remedy for my soul and my body. I’d also take into account loved ones and family, which are the most potent “vitamins” for keeping us going, since they’re the engine that nourishes our souls. You know how good it feels to receive a sincere hug from loved ones, to watch them grow, to listen to the grandchildren’s funny remarks, or simply to know that we have a helping hand on gloomy days—that’s what truly anchors our will to live or to keep doing the things we love and enjoy.
Here, I want to tell you about one of the things my dad does—he’s 96 years old. He walks, has a sharp memory, takes care of himself, and one of the things he loves to do is listen to music on the radio. And let me tell you, friends, he clings to that radio as if it were his best friend, and you can’t imagine how many he’s broken, as if it were a toy. By the way, my brother recently bought him a new one, because when he doesn’t have it, he feels sad and down. He lives a quiet, carefree life, surrounded by peace.

So, to reach 100 years of age, we must learn to let go of what we don’t understand, nurture our relationships with patience, enjoy the little things life gives us, and be grateful for life and for everything it gives us. That’s why I say that longevity is built day by day with love in our hearts and with the peace that comes from knowing we are alive.
Until next time. Blessings to all!
