MSCI wollte die Entscheidung bis zum 16. Oktober bekannt geben.

November 2026 in Kraft.

MSCI had intended to announce its decision by October 16. Finally, at approximately 10:48 p.m. on October 15, the moment arrived, and MSCI released the highly anticipated press statement:

MSCI will implement—with minor adjustments—the proposal to define and classify non-operating companies as ineligible for inclusion in the MSCI Global Investable Market Indexes. This proposal was the subject of a consultation announced on August 3, 2026. The changes will be implemented as part of the November 2026 index review and will take effect at the close of trading on November 30, 2026.

Although the statement mentions unspecified "minor adjustments," it is highly likely that both Strategy and Metaplanet will no longer be part of the indices after November 30. Strategy is currently included in indices such as the MSCI World and MSCI USA, while Metaplanet is found in the MSCI Japan IMI and several small-cap indices.

However, the final list of companies to be removed will not be published until November 11.

On the betting platform Polymarket, the probability of Strategy being dropped from MSCI indices this year stood at around 80% prior to the press release; that figure has now risen to over 90%.

As Strategy itself has calculated, approximately 3% to 4% of all outstanding MSTR shares are held by ETFs or funds that track MSCI indices. According to CEO Phong Le, this suggests that there would be no significant impact on the share price—whether from the funds being forced to divest their holdings or from the market anticipating this selling pressure. I quoted from the following article...

My personal conclusion:

Meanwhile, MicroStrategy and Michael Saylor are downplaying the situation, claiming that an exclusion from the index won’t have a major impact on the share price. If that’s the case, one has to wonder: why is there such a strong outcry in the media against this potential exclusion?

It appears that MicroStrategy may be preparing for its removal from the MSCI index, as it has paused its Bitcoin accumulation...

• Share buybacks instead of Bitcoin: The company spent $204.9 million to repurchase approximately 2.07 million of its STRC preferred shares (Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred).

• Decrease in USD cash holdings: As a result of these buybacks, the USD cash balance available for general corporate purposes shrank from $447.3 million to $242.4 million. The cash reserve (held for purposes such as dividend payments and interest) stood at $4.83 billion.

• "Risk-off" market phase: During the same period, Bitcoin fell below the $80,000 mark, accompanied by a broader market downturn across the crypto and tech sectors.

Currently, the STRC shares are being repurchased to mitigate the high costs associated with dividend payments.

Do you think there will be significant selling pressure on Bitcoin toward the end of the year?
