Donald Trump wird wegen eines neuen Bezahldienstes auf Truth Social verklagt, der zahlenden Kunden einen schnelleren Zugang zu potenziell marktbewegenden Beiträgen verschafft. Die Kläger wollen verhindern, dass offizielle Regierungsinformationen ausschließlich über Truth Social veröffentlicht werden, solange zahlende Abonnenten einen zeitlichen Vorsprung erhalten.
In der Klageschrift heißt es:
„Dieses Vorgehen ist außergewöhnlich, korrupt und verfassungswidrig, und die Kläger reichen diese Klage ein, um es zu unterbinden.“
Der Vorwurf ist brisant, weil Trump seine Plattform regelmäßig für Ankündigungen zu Zöllen, militärischen Maßnahmen und anderen Themen nutzt, die Aktien-, Öl- und andere Märkte bewegen können. Nach Angaben der Kläger folgten auf viele seiner 9000 bis 11.000 Beiträge und Reposts während der zweiten Amtszeit keine entsprechenden Mitteilungen des Weißen Hauses.
Trump Media hatte die Truth API im Juli angekündigt und am 1. August gestartet. Der Dienst liefert veröffentlichte Beiträge maschinenlesbar und nach Angaben des Unternehmens einen Bruchteil schneller aus. Interimschef Kevin McGurn sagte zuletzt, Trump Media habe bereits mehr als zehn Kundenverträge abgeschlossen, „in der Regel im Bereich von 60.000 bis 100.000 US-Dollar pro Monat“. Künftig soll der Feed auch stärker in Nachrichtenangebote, Finanzterminals und andere Drittplattformen integriert werden.
Die Kläger werfen Trump deshalb vor, persönlich von einem bevorzugten Zugang zu staatlich relevanten Informationen zu profitieren. Trump Media weist die Kritik zurück. Ein Sprecher erklärte, zahlreiche Plattformen und Medien verbreiteten Trump-Inhalte bereits über kostenpflichtige Feeds, und warf den Klägern vor, die Gerichte nutzen zu wollen, um Trump zu zensieren.
Bereits vor dem Start der Truth API hatten die demokratischen Senatoren Elizabeth Warren und Adam Schiff die US-Börsenaufsicht SEC aufgefordert zu prüfen, ob der Dienst die Integrität der Finanzmärkte untergraben könnte. Donald Trump is being sued over a new paid service on Truth Social that grants paying customers faster access to potentially market-moving posts. The so-called Truth API costs up to $100,000 per month and covers ten prominent accounts—including Trump’s own, the White House account, and that of Vice President JD Vance.
The lawsuit was filed by The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation in a Manhattan federal court. The plaintiffs seek to prevent official government information from being released exclusively via Truth Social while paying subscribers receive a time advantage.
The complaint states:

The allegation is significant because Trump regularly uses his platform for announcements regarding tariffs, military actions, and other topics capable of moving stock, oil, and other markets. Trump Media announced the Truth API in July and launched it on August 1. The service delivers published posts in a machine-readable format and—according to the company—at a slightly faster speed. Interim executive Kevin McGurn recently stated that Trump Media had already secured more than ten customer contracts, “typically in the range of $60,000 to $100,000 per month.” Plans are in place to further integrate the feed into news services, financial terminals, and other third-party platforms in the future.
Consequently, the plaintiffs accuse Trump of personally profiting from preferential access to information of public importance. Trump Media rejects the criticism. A spokesperson stated that numerous platforms and media outlets were already distributing Trump-related content via paid feeds, and accused the plaintiffs of attempting to use the courts to censor Trump.
Even before the launch of the Truth API, Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff had called on the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to investigate whether the service might undermine the integrity of financial markets. Now the dispute is heading to court—bringing with it the question of whether a financial head start on Trump’s market-moving posts is legally permissible.
