Howdy Guys, I hope We all good today

As Usual, I am having this Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets challenge, and the same as yesterday post, we still have Rise of The Commons as our main theme.

More or less, I am continuing my trials with Dragons during this Rise of the Commons because most Dragons are powerful units above average. If yesterday we had Whelp Herder as the subject, today I am picking another one, powerful for sure, The Runic Skyclaw

Unlike Whelp Herder who is strong on Silver League cap level, Runic Skyclaw is strong from the start till the end. She is fast, not a joke, I mean really fast 6 speed and she has that fly ability which makes her hard to hit.

Stats-wise she is above average. Strong attack, fast, armor, and decent health. Abilities-wise, all her abilities are good. The only weakness she has is her 9 mana requirement, this puts her into bad situation which many 9mana units are ridiculously strong.

But still.. Let's check my battle with her below

THE BATTLE

This is a Modern Silver League rank battle, I believe both of us are human. I like this condition, which both of us come with different element. Let see the ruleset first.

image.png

A silenced summoner ruleset, this means whoever your summoner is, only his or her level that matters for the battle. In this situation I believe going with Dragon Summoner is the best solution, because you have more option on your selection.

I picked water element because I wanted to make a combo of Deeplurker and Runic Skyclaw. 47 Mana Cap was big enough to build a lineup with several big units, I believed I did not spend all the mana available anyway.

OK let check the battle:

image.png

  • The battle started with both of us buffing up our team and debuffing our opponents. My opponent was more focused on defense and my team was offense oriented
  • My opponent had 7 melee damage, 3 range damage and 2 magic damage. Combined all they became 12 damage per round.
  • My team had 10 melee damage, 2 magic damage and 4 range damage. Combined those all, we had 16 damage per round.
  • Definitely My team was hitting harder than them, and we had speed superiority here. I believed my team had this battle due to the massive speed gap

image.png

  • Both of us lost a unit in the first round, but I lost my tank here. That was a bigger lost compared to my opponent. Maybe I should go with Diemonshark instead of this Lemell Refugee

image.png

  • My team managed to take down their main damage dealer, the pelacor arbalest. This put their team into bad situation, which they lost their DPS guy.

  • Round 3 was more leaning towards my team, because we had more units than them.

image.png

  • the result from having more units, we managed to enlarge our gap. Our team made two kills and now the situation because 5 vs 2. Hard for them to make any retaliation.

  • Round 5 was the last one. Good Game

CLOSURE AND DISCUSSION

First, I was sorry I was too fixated on having dragons on my team and it looked like in this battle we did not come with our best level units. However overall it's a good one because I think we can see both side displaying our own meta through our limited line up here.

But from this battle, we can take 3 points to be learnt here...

1. Another Speed Superiority.

The most decisive factor in this battle was speed, it was not the level we had. My team was a lot faster than them, that made my team made the kills first.

2. Opportunity and Snipe Do Not Blend Well

My plan was to let Runic Skyclaw made the first hit, then Deeplurker killed the wounded unit. It did not work like that, both of them hit their own target. Luckily Deeplurker kept killing his target every turn

My meta or my strategy did not work well this time, however my team won because my opponent did not anticipated Opportunity attacks. So overall I do not know whether this tactic is good or bad, this combination of sniping and opportunity attack.

3. Not Always The Dragons

Actually some of Rare units are super strong and they are not Dragons. My opponents had two, the Corsair Bosun and Anachron Bolter.

image.png

The reason why my Runic Skyclaw did not shine in this battle was because of this Anachron Bolter. She broke the link between Deeplurker and Runic too. The current Anachron Bolter is already nerfed, I recall the first time she is introduced, she was way more powerful than this.

Anyway, the point is that using Dragons is good to surprise your opponents, but don't forget your opponents can get strong non dragons units too during this Rise of The Commons.

That's all for my battle mage secret post today, thank you for reading my post here and see you guys again on Splinterlands battlefields!!
