Back in 2011 when I joined a Web2 social platform called 2Go, it was my safe haven for interaction and socializing. I could literally spend my whole day there chatting and trying to gain more levels, all for the sake of showing a ranking that was worth nothing monetarily, but for the pride of topping other users. I chatted there and on other social platforms like Facebook until life started evolving with the need to make something meaningful out of my time, and that's when I found the platform Hive. I was introduced by Burlarj, a friend I made in my 2Go days. I was reluctant at first because I never believed anything online pays, especially with the rumors of people who get scammed, but eventually I joined.
The Hive Blockchain wasn't anything like the social platforms I had always interacted with. Being a novice with Blockchain technology, it looked strange, and the only motivation at that time was the promise of rewards, which the other social platforms do not give. As time went by, I realized many amazing things about the Hive platform that other Web2 social platforms do not offer, and one of them was "The Training Ground". It was a place where one gains mastery in what they do and builds themselves in the process.
I have always said that I wasn't a good writer when I joined the platform. Writing a story was like a burden to me, but with time, my penmanship improved, and joining the Inkwell community helped me understand story arcs and what is expected of one to grow. This skill was something I could have paid for in certain scenarios, but I learned it freely while earning despite my poor writing skills. The communities ranged from story writing and photography to Photoshop and collage making to using prompts to create breathtaking, captivating stories. At this point, my time was no longer spent building ranks that add no value but learning and earning.
Soon, through the platform, I gained a certain level of financial independence, made genuine friends and connections, learned about Blockchain and cryptocurrency, and found the foundation where my passion for web programming started. Every moment I spent here was worth something because, one way or another, it empowered me to become something or grow in what I already loved to do. The Hive platform may not have an open direct tab for chat and socializing, but every moment spent on the platform pays off, and every second of interaction with the platform gives something back, either monetarily or in knowledge.
