I took the entire day to ponder what has been my best financial decision. It wasn't an easy one, especially for me, who has never made huge money from any investment. It often looks like I came late or at the wrong time. But just when I was about to say I've never invested in anything that turned out well, I realized I own a land and a building I'm yet to complete and a few scattered plots of land. However, these properties were bought by my loved ones with my money that never reached me, and it wasn't actually my decision.
In 2018, lands were allocated to indigenous people of the FCT, and my family were part of the beneficiaries. Though no individual received an entire plot alone, the land I was given with my brother amounted to 5 million when it was sold, and we shared the money. My money never reached me; my mum decided to buy a land with my share. I never had the privilege to make the decision myself. Many other properties I own in Abuja were never specifically decided by me. The few places I invested in always turn out badly, whether in crypto or real estate, so I'm still awaiting my best financial decision.

However, my best investment didn't happen in the area of finance but in friendship. I can proudly say that I have the best friends ever. I have been able to invest in friendship through small acts of kindness in the form of financial assistance, and this has built strong bonds of friendship with people who are making connections and whom I can rely on in times of need. Most of the friends I have made over the years have grown to be so connected that they will soon be of help to me or my children. I've seen them come through for me most days, and I'm proud to have invested in friendship even when the financial aspect wasn't all great.
So if I am asked, "What's my best financial investment?" I'll say, "Investing in friendship—one that may last forever. I have just a few friends, and a few of them came from one financial favour I did. This favour I once did, they have repaid over and over again and are still repaying. It seemed I came through for them when they had given up on themselves, and today they've grown big, and their branches have spread wide to accommodate me."
