What a pleasure to be here again sharing with you some of my crafts. Today I bring you another commission I made, but this time it was not from a friend of hive but from a family member. The relative in question is my paternal uncle, to whom I made a cardboard organizer/jewelry box decorated with bottle corks. All this was made 100% with recycled materials, as you know I like to work with this kind of materials.
If you noticed, I previously referred to the craft as an organizer/jewelry box, because the description of what my uncle wanted fit perfectly with both functions. In short, he asked for a nice little box in which he could keep the watch and ring that he always takes off when he gets home. He also wanted to keep other objects in there, which were not jewelry as such, so I understood that it was more of an organizer than a jewelry box. But well, I decided to make a jewelry box with a good size in which I can keep everything.

Qué placer poder estar nuevamente por aquí compartiendo con ustedes algunas de mis manualidades. El día de hoy vuelvo a traerles otro encargo que hice, pero esta vez no fue de una amiga de hive sino de un familiar. El familiar en cuestión es mi tío paterno, al cual le hice un organizador/joyero de cartón decorado con corchos de botellas. Todo esto fue elaborado 100% con materiales reciclados, pues ya saben que me gusta trabajar con este tipo de materiales.
Si se fijaron bien, anteriormente me referí a la manualidad como organizador/joyero, y es que la descripción de lo que quería mi tío encajaba perfectamente con ambas funciones. En resumen, pedía una cajita bonita en la cual pudiese guardar el reloj y el anillo que siempre se quita cuando llega a su casa. También quería guardar otros objetos ahí, que no eran joyería como tal, así que entendí que era más un organizador que un joyero. Pero bueno, yo decidí hacer un joyero con un buen tamaño en el cual pueda guardar de todo.

1️⃣ The first thing to do is to mark and cut out the inner and outer sections of the jewelry box. The base is 29 cm x 15 cm and since you have to leave 1 cm around the entire base for the corks then you must cut the sections two centimeters less than the base measurements. I used a clock as a guide for the largest section and the measurements were as follows:
- Side sections => 27 cm x 5,5 cm
- Front and back section => 12 cm x 5,5 cm
- Large division => 26,5 cm x 5,5 cm
- Small divisions => 8 cm x 5,5 cm
Lo primero será marcar y recortar las secciones interiores y exteriores del joyero. La base es de 29 cm x 15 cm y como hay que dejar 1 cm alrededor de toda la base para los corchos entonces se debe cortar las secciones dos centímetros menos que las medidas de la base. Utilicé un reloj como guía para la sección más grande y las medidas me quedaron así:
- Secciones laterales => 27 cm x 5,5 cm
- Sección frontal y trasera => 12 cm x 5,5 cm
- División grande => 26,5 cm x 5,5 cm
- Divisiones pequeñas => 8 cm x 5,5 cm

2️⃣ Using the above measurements, two pieces of cardboard should be cut out, as each of these pieces of cardboard will have one side removed and glued together, leaving the corrugated part of the cardboard facing out. Then the cardboard base will be used as a guide to create the structure of the jewelry box. Leave a large and long space for the watch, two small spaces for rings and small objects and a medium space for any other object that does not fit in the small ones.

3️⃣ Next, the bottle corks will be cut from top to bottom, dividing them into two sides. The sides of the corks will be glued all around the outside of the jewelry box. As these corks measure 3.5 cm, they will be glued in the center of the sides, leaving a space of one centimeter above and one centimeter below.
Seguidamente, se cortarán de arriba a abajo los corchos de botellas, dividiéndolos en dos caras. Las caras de los corchos se pegarán alrededor de todo el exterior del joyero. 4️⃣ After gluing all the corks, cardboard strips of 30 cm x 1 cm will be marked and cut. Each of the cardboard strips will have one of its sides removed and will be glued over and under the corks in the space left, thus leveling the relief of the wall. The cardboard obtained by removing one of the sides of the cardboard strips will be glued all along the upper edge of the side walls and the partitions.
Luego de pegar todos los corchos, se marcarán y cortarán tiras de cartón de 30 cm x 1 cm. A cada una de las tiras de cartón se le retirará una de sus caras y se pegarán encima y debajo de los corchos en el espacio que quedó, así se logra nivelar el relieve de la pared. 5️⃣ The base of the jewelry box is ready, now it's time to work on the lid. For the lid, cut out two pieces of cardboard with the same size as the base (29 cm x 14 cm) and glue them together. Next, cut four strips of cardboard measuring 30 cm x 2 cm and remove one of their sides and then glue them all around the top edge of the lid.
Ya estaría lista la base del joyero, ahora toca trabajar en la tapa. Para la tapa se recortarán dos piezas de cartón con las mismas medidas de la base (29 cm x 14 cm) y se pegarán entre sí. 6️⃣ Some of the remaining corks will be sliced and then shaped into hexagons. Each of these hexagons will be glued in the center of the lid, spaced slightly apart, creating a honeycomb design. Using half of a cork, create a handle for the lid and glue it to the center hexagon.

7️⃣ Finally, glue a rim of corrugated cardboard to the bottom of the lid, which should be slightly wider than the base of the jewelry box so that it fits easily. And as a final touch, the remaining cardboard or cardboard will be used to cover the entire edge of the lid.

(Optional) To add some water protection and rigidity to the cardboard, a wood varnish or gloss can be applied to the entire surface of the jewelry box. Keep in mind that this completely changes the color of the cardboard and turns it dark as if it were wood. At first I wanted to leave the jewelry box with its natural cardboard color, but I had to varnish it, since I had to make it resistant to humidity. I repeat, this step is totally optional and you are free to choose how it looks better.
(Opcional) Para agregar algo de protección contra el agua y mayor rigidez al cartón, se puede emplear un barniz o brillo de madera, para aplicarlo en toda la superficie del joyero. Ten en cuenta que esto cambia completamente el color del cartón y lo vuelve oscuro como si de madera se tratase.
