One Piece is literally my age. I mean, if you haven't heard the name of this anime mentioned, you probably live in a cave... or, you're a grandmother/grandfather. I always knew it existed, but I looked at it with some skepticism: “it's too long”, “it sure has a thousand chapters of filler”. Spoiler: it does have filler, but what do you expect from an anime with almost 26 years on the air? Anyway, now all I can think is: I never want it to end, I love it🩷.
I've been watching it for almost a year and a half now, and it was one of the best decisions✨ At first it seems like just a pirate story, but One Piece doesn't take long to become something much bigger. Suddenly you're crying for characters, pondering justice, freedom, trauma and dreams.

What caught me the most about One Piece is its world. Oda-sensei didn't just create a pirate universe; he created a whole system with history, politics, absurd geographies and cultures so unique. From the very first episode, you realize that every detail has a purpose and is connected.
There are very good arcs before the timeskip, but, without a doubt, the trio between Sabaody, Impel Down and Marineford kept me on the verge of emotional collapse. There you end up realizing that underneath the adventures and friendship, there is a strong social critique, a political message and an emotional charge that you don't expect. It is in that war that Luffy stops being just "a guy who wants to be the King of Pirates" and becomes a real threat to the world government.

The Mugiwaras feel like family to me. There is something about their dynamic that transcends the screen: how they understand each other, respect each other, accept each other, and trust each other unconditionally. They are all willing to risk everything for each other, and not just with each other, but also towards those who cross their paths. They offer empathy, care, a home, no matter where someone comes from or what their story was. They know how to recognize the value in each person, and that ability to see beyond appearances is one of the things I love most about them.
Even their boats, starting with the Going Merry, are treated as an essential part of this family. Each has their own dream, their own difficult and deeply human story, but they decided to walk together, not just out of loyalty to Luffy, but because they found a place to call home. And I, as a viewer, have felt part of that home as well.

🔥 The war that changed everything. Very good action and animation, epic reunions and alliances, but most significant was the pain, helplessness, and development of all characters. Here One Piece stopped being “a fun pirate series”, and became a story with soul. It's the end of something important, but the beginning of a new era; it gave everyone a reason to grow up, it showed us the young pirates who keep pace with the mugiwaras, and the old pirates who have set the path for them. For me, these three arcs are the center of it all.
2.Water 7 and Enies Lobby
🏛️ A narrative and emotional gem. Every character gets their moment to shine. Robin's story, the Going Merry's sacrifice, it was all a whirlwind of emotions that broke me and rebuilt me.

One Piece is a story about adventure, pirates and absurdly creative powers... but it's also a story about life, about growing up, losing, resisting, loving, fighting and getting back up again. There are moments that have stuck in my soul✨ Nami asking for Luffy's help to save her village; seeing Robin shouting “I want to live!”, Usopp burning the flag of the oppressive government; Luffy, desperate and broken by the loss of his brother, but decides to continue fighting to protect his friends. Or when the Going Merry (their ship), reminds us that it's not just wood, but also has a soul like its crew, that no matter how much it breaks it stands firm for them (and yes, I cried over a ship, and I have no regrets).
Each of these moments, and many more, leave you with a lesson. That it's not wrong to ask for help, that having a dream doesn't make you weak. That there are bonds that transcend blood. Even the most broken can find their place. That there are real injustices that we cannot normalize, and that freedom is defended not only with strength, but with conviction and unity.
