Just a few days ago I treated myself to a trip to Malmö, a small city located in southern Sweden and neighboring Copenhagen (Denmark). Travelling by plane from Madrid (Spain), in just a few hours you arrive at Copenhagen airport. From there, the easiest way to get to Malmö is by train, crossing the sea over the Öresund Bridge that connects the two countries (Sweden and Denmark).

A few hours of travel separated two very different climates. During my stay in Malmö the temperature oscillated between 0º and 5º Celsius. A difference in temperature compared to Madrid of about ten degrees less, which together with the humidity of a place located at the edge of the sea, intensified even more the feeling of cold for someone who came from southern Europe.

The low temperatures, plus the lack of light, at approximately 15:30 pm, it was already dark, has made this mini-vacation an unusual visit. We could also call this visit as alternative tourism.

Hace sólo unos pocos días que me regalé un viaje a Malmö, pequeña ciudad situada al sur de Suecia y vecina a Copenhagen (Dinamarca). Viajando en avión desde Madrid (España), en sólo unas pocas horas se llega al aeropuerto de Copenhagen. Desde allí, el modo más sencillo de llegar a Malmö es en tren, cruzando el mar sobre el Puente de Öresund que une los dos países (Suecia y Dinamarca).

Unas pocas horas de viaje que separaban dos climas bien diferentes. Durante mi estancia en Malmö la temperatura osciló entre los 0º y los 5º centígrados. Una diferencia de temperatura respecto a Madrid de unos diez grados menos, que unidos a la humedad propia de un lugar situado al borde del mar, intensificaba todavía más la sensación de frío para alguien llegado del sur de Europa.

Las bajas temperaturas, más la falta de luz, a las 15:30 pm aproximadamente, ya era de noche, ha hecho de estas mini-vacaciones una visita poco usual. También podríamos llamar a esta visita como turismo alternativo.

En esta ocasión me acompaña @vezo, lo que hace que la sensación térmica sea más placentera. Hola @vezo, encantado de tenerte por aquí.

Malmö is a city that I love for many reasons. Let's start with its architecture. The medieval origin of the city can be seen in some examples of its architecture as in the castle (Malmöhus Slott), St. Peter's Church, Gothic style, or in the square of “Lilla Torg”.

Although the buildings that I enjoy the most, are those built in the early twentieth century. In Malmö, fortunately for the visitor, modernist buildings coexist, what was called the young art there, with Art Nouveau buildings.

Another reason to visit, besides the architecture, is the urban art. Malmö is full of murals and graffiti, many of them of great quality. In fact, Malmö has earned the nickname of being the city of comics, a nickname that is also reflected in the street art.

I will not talk about all this in this publication for several reasons. I have arrived in a city that is getting beautiful, and full of works, so many buildings are covered by scaffolding due to rehabilitation works. The light was also not the most adequate to show the buildings in all their beauty.

Malmö es una ciudad que me encanta por muchos motivos. Empezamos con su arquitectura. El origen medieval de la ciudad se puede ver en algunos ejemplos de su a arquitectura como en el castillo (Malmöhus Slott), la Iglesia de San Pedro, de estilo gótico, o en la plaza de "Lilla Torg".

Aunque los edificios de los que más disfruto, son los construidos a principios del siglo XX. En Malmö, por suerte para el visitante, conviven edificios modernistas, lo que allí se llamó el arte joven, con edificaciones de estilo Art Nouveau.

Más motivos de visita, además de la arquitectura, es el arte urbano. Malmö está repleto de murales y graffities, muchos ellos de gran calidad. De hecho, Malmö se ha ganado el apelativo de ser la ciudad del cómic, apelativo que también se refleja en el arte callejero.

De todo esto no hablaré en esta publicación por varios motivos. He llegado a una ciudad que se está poniendo guapa, en obras, por lo que muchos edificios se encuentran cubiertos por andamios debidos a las obras de rehabilitación. Tampoco la luz era la más adecuada para mostrar los edificios con toda su belleza.

Despite the inconveniences, the trip has been very pleasant. The inhabitants of Malmö are charming people, and the mixture and coexistence of cultures that can be seen in every corner of the city, in my opinion, are an example of tolerance. The presence of multiple cultures is also an advantage when looking for affordable and good quality places to eat when looking for a place to satisfy your appetite. I can't fail to mention that for a vinyl record collector, the drop in the value of the Swedish krona makes record stores very interesting places to visit.

As it is a brief view, at a time when the city is under construction, in winter, with little natural light, I have decided to dedicate this publication to Christmas in Malmö and, related to this theme, to the night lights. Most of the photographs are taken near the Möllevångstorget square and the Triangeln complex, a complex of buildings that includes a hotel (Scandic) and a large shopping center.

A pesar de los inconvenientes, el viaje ha sido muy agradable. Los habitantes de Malmö son gente encantadora, y la mezcla y convivencia de culturas que se puede ver en cada rincón de la ciudad, en mi opinión, son un ejemplo de tolerancia. La presencia de múltiples culturas también es toda una ventaja a la hora de buscar lugares económicamente asequibles, y de una buena calidad, en el momento de buscar un lugar en el que calmar el apetito. No puedo dejar de mencionar que para un coleccionista de discos de vinilo, la bajada del valor de la corona sueca convierte a las tiendas de discos en lugares muy interesantes de visitar.

Por ser una vista breve, en un momento el que la ciudad está en obras, en invierno, con escasa luz natural, he decidido dedicar esta publicación al la Navidad en Malmö y, relacionado con ésta temática, a las luces nocturnas. Las fotografías, en su mayoría, están tomadas cerca de la plaza Möllevångstorget y del complejo Triangeln, un conjunto de edificaciones del que forman parte un hotel (Scandic) y un gran centro comercial.

About Christmas in Sweden, I can assure that it will call the attention of any traveler arriving from Spain because of its sobriety. In the street you do not see the typical multicolored lights that can be seen in large or small Spanish cities. Only a few golden lights illuminate some of the central streets of the city. Also striking is the absence of religious elements.

Sobre la Navidad en Suecia, puedo asegurar que llamará la atención a cualquier viajero que llegue de España por su sobriedad. En la calle no se ven las típicas luces multicolores que se pueden observar en las ciudades españolas grandes o pequeñas. Sólo unas pocas luces doradas iluminan alguna de las calles centrales de la ciudad. También llama la atención la ausencia de elementos religiosos.

Greets the family of bears

Another curiosity of this visit has been the People Park. During the day you could see a whole polar type decoration, intended for the enjoyment of children. I guess that was the purpose of this decoration, to amuse the children. However, it was at night, with the help of the ultraviolet light, that the park was transformed into something magical. But precisely this transformation occurred just when the children were at home. This peculiarity made my companion and I enjoy almost alone a fairytale landscape.

Saluda a la familia osuna

Otra curiosidad de esta visita ha sido el llamado Parque del Pueblo o Parque Popular, no tengo muy clara la traducción. Por el día se podía ver toda una decoración de tipo polar, destinada al disfrute de los más jóvenes. Supongo que ese era el objetivo de esta decoración, divertir a los niños. Sin embargo, era por la noche, con la ayuda de la luz ultravioleta, cuando el parque se convertía en algo mágico. Pero precisamente, esta transformación ocurría justo cuando los niños se encontraban en su casa. Esta particularidad hizo que mi acompañante y yo disfrutaramos casi solos de un paisaje de cuento de hadas.

The night of purple sky

People who know me know that I like to look at the sky, and on this trip I was lucky enough to observe a phenomenon I had never seen before.

Evil tongues say that it was the work of my companion @vezo, it is possible, although I can't say for sure. It also comes to my mind that it was another magician, @avdesing, who painted the sky purple..

This phenomenon began showing first as a yellow-orange stripe on the horizon, which gradually turned into a reddish sky. Here I leave some pictures in case someone knows what happened, and wants to tell about it.

La noche del cielo púrpura.

La gente que me conoce sabe que me gusta mirar al cielo, y en este viaje tuve la suerte de observar un fenómeno que nunca había visto con anterioridad.

Las malas lenguas dicen que fue obra de mi acompañante @vezo, es posible, aunque no lo puedo asegurar. También me viene la mente que haya sido otra maga, @avdesing, quien pintó el cielo de color púrpura.

Este fenómeno comenzó mostrándose primero como una franja amarillo-naranja en el horizonte, que poco a poco se fue convirtiendo en un cielo rojizo. Aquí dejo unas fotografías por si alguien sabe qué ocurrió, y lo quiere contar.

Möllevångstorget Square

This square is one of the places where I have walked the longest during these days for several reasons. Two of them are the large presence of breweries and restaurants, great reasons. The other is that the square is a place with great activity during the day. Every day there is a street market with fresh products brought from the region's crops, and it is also a center for political meetings. The day after the fall of the Syrian regime, dozens of Syrians could be seen celebrating the fall of Assad.

Although the photographs I present in this publication, show us the square at night and almost empty.

La Plaza Möllevångstorget

Esta plaza es uno de los sitios por los que he paseado más tiempo durante estos días por varios motivos. Dos de ellos son la gran presencia de cervecerías y restaurantes, grandes motivos. El otro es que la plaza es un lugar con gran actividad durante el día. A diario se monta un mercadillo con productos frescos traídos de los cultivos de la región, y también es un centro de reuniones políticas. Al día siguiente de la caída del régimen sirio se podían ver decenas de sirios y sirias celebrando la caída de Assad.

Aunque las fotografías que presento en esta publicación, nos muestran la plaza de noche y casi vacía.

The canal

I have already mentioned the medieval origin of the city, and the modern Malmö Canal is part of the moat that surrounded the city to protect it from possible attacks. In winter, you can see fishermen on its banks trying to catch a fish. In spring and summer its waters are covered with boats and bathers. On this occasion, the photos show the canal in the evening light.

Ya he mencionado el origen medieval de la ciudad, y el moderno canal de Malmö es parte del foso que rodeaba la ciudad para protegerla de posibles ataques. En invierno se pueden ver a pescadores que desde sus orillas tratan de capturar algún pez. En primavera y verano sus aguas se cubre de barcas y bañistas. En esta ocasión, las fotos muestran el canal a la luz de la noche.
