Cuando vemos las palabras "Dream team" que quiere decir equipo soñado en su traducción al español, inmediatamente nos trasladamos al baloncesto y a aquellos juegos olímpicos de Barcelona de 1992, cuando la delegación de los Estados Unidos de norte América, por primera vez incursionó en la disciplina del basquetbol con jugadores de su liga local, la NBA, considerada por todos, la mejor del planeta, un equipo que desde el primer momento fue anunciado, generó la mayor de las expectativas.
Era reunir un grupo de jugadores profesionales y estrellas que delante del resto de los quintetos participantes, eran muy superiores, Michael Jordan estrella recién coronada en la liga con los Chicago Bulls, un Mágic Johnson y Larry Bird que a pesar de que estaban en el ocaso de sus carreras profesionales, el nivel mostrado para ese entonces, fue de primera línea, sin contar el resto del conjunto estadounidense que no hizo otra cosa que corroborar lo deseado dentro de los seguidores del baloncesto, que era ver todas esas estrellas juntas dentro de la cancha.

Eso que sucedió en aquel entonces con ese elenco plagado de estrellas, es exactamente lo que está sucediendo bajo mi percepción en este año 2024, que apartando esa presentación de 1992 y quizás la de 1996, no ha habido otra de ese nivel hasta esta que se está presentando en 2024, otra vez vemos a jugadores como Jayson Tatum recién coronado con los Celtics de Boston, y a LeBron James y Stephen Curry ya con cierta edad como algunos jugadores en ese entonces, son los que lideran el quinteto de las barras y las estrellas.
Se preguntarán, ¿por qué la comparación con esa edición de 1992? El comparar se puede volver algo odioso y sin ningún tipo de sentido, el promedio de puntos con respecto a sus rivales del elenco de 1992 fue de 41.8 puntos al finalizar cada juego, según registros de parte del comité organizador de esos juegos, sí, fue arrollador, eso quizás nunca más se podrá igualar, pero lo que quiero mostrarles, es que así como en esa edición estaba lo mejor de ese momento, en 2024 también ocurre lo mismo, basta con ver a los 12 seleccionados y su cuerpo técnico, es un equipo de terror.

Tampoco se trata de cuántas estrellas te puedas llevar a la competencia, porque en que cada una de las 8 ediciones anteriores de los Dream team las ha habido, pero desde 1996 hasta la de hoy en París, siempre se han quedado algunos nombres importantes por fuera de la lista por diferentes razones, pero sin temor a equivocarme en 2024, creo no se queda por fuera ningún jugador de renombre, Jimmy Butler podría ser uno, pero pienso que es más por puestos disponibles, que solamente son (12) que a este equipo le falte algún talento.
