During these rainy days, when we see such fresh red lotus stalks in the market or on the village path, our hearts instantly feel better. Red lotus not only pleases our eyes, it is a wonderful symbol of the tradition and simple life of rural Bengal. When hundreds of lotus flowers spread their petals in the calm waters of the beel in the early morning, it feels as if someone has spread a red carpet on the heart of nature. This ever-familiar form of rural life takes us back to our childhood days, forgetting our mechanical busyness.

Along with its beauty, lotus is also a big part of Bengali food culture. Fresh lotus stalks, cooked with hilsa or shrimp fish paste or lightly cooked with a little coconut batter, bring a heavenly taste to any Bengali's feet. It is not only delicious to eat, but also very beneficial for health. The high amount of fiber in it helps in increasing our digestive power and it is very good for health as it is low in calories. Apart from this, the essential minerals in it also play a role in increasing the body's immunity. In the busy life of the city, we rarely get the opportunity to see this pure taste and form of nature. So whenever the opportunity comes, we should keep this indigenous and traditional food in our hands. May these beautiful and simple gifts of nature live among us and remind us of our roots.
