Music is an integral part human life. I have said it severally whenever i am opportune to talk about music. Music has really caused lots of positive impacts in the lives of people. Special gratitude to the pool of resilience staff of this beautiful community for their efforts in ensuring that weekly activities are properly done.
I am so delighted to share my input as far as the theme for this initiative is concerned. The subject is on how evolution affects our african music. This is obviously what has really affected our outstanding music today. I would not want to be selfish but the truth js that african music has done more good in those days than what we have jn the industry right now. There are lots of factors we could consider that is the reason of this metamorphosis.
One of the outstanding thing about african music is that it carried weight and depth of meaning in those days. They never sang without passing a good message. They were not just playing instruments but allowed the lyrics of the song to be heard and many times they write it down so that you can easily flow with them unlike now. Such kind of music inspires one and changes one mood from bad to good.
Examples of such music includes the likes of 2 face indibia where he sang about the african queen. He portrayed his love for the africa lady which could be liken as the entire continent of africa. He was was not afraid of his root and where he hails from. This kind of song are rarely gotten today. The likes of lucky dube,Fela kuti, Chinyere, brenda etc. When you play such music even today and listened to the lyrics you get motivated and acknowledge the depth of their message.
Some of these music was a source of meditation to many people and even the nation at large. Some of these music gained national recognition and are almost sang across different sectors.
As time progresses and with the technological advancement, there is a total change in the africa music today. More sophisticated instruments are used which often water the main important part of the song. In todays world, people tend to go for only the sound at the expense of the lyrics. Technology ought to enhance our positive development but this has really affected the entire music world. Packaging has taken over instead of singing meaningful songs.
African jnstruments by default are one of the best i have ever known. I could remember the xylophone, flutes and others were great instruments we used. The evolution of the new musical has reduced the quality and the true nature of our music. Its difficult many times for keyboard to manupulate and bring out the real sound. Some times listening to the modernized music is boring because it lacks the cultural taste.
Another evolution that has occured in africa music is in the area of the kind of attire used. I noticed that some of the video clip of some music is metamorphosing to pornography instead of covering them self with decency. Its commonly said that you are address the way you dress.
As i conclude this, many of the present african songs does not last for a long time again unlike lucky dube when play it now till tomorrow sounds fresh.
