I know what you're thinking: "Here goes this guy again, hyping us up with his pool stories and dropping recycled pics from old posts," but nope. Not even close. Because what I’m about to spill actually happened, and these shots are fresh from our recent training sessions. Our youngest son @stow01 is currently visiting us from Norway, and he was sweet enough to ring us up to see what we needed, basically offering to help upgrade our old gadgets or fill in any blanks. Ever since our trip to Argentina—where I copped our last pair of swim goggles and the swimsuit I use for training—our gear has definitely seen better days: the goggle lenses are super cloudy and the swimsuit fabric is totally giving up the ghost thanks to all the harsh chlorine used to keep the pool clean. So, yeah, when he called, those were the two absolute essentials I told him we needed to replace ASAP.

Once our "baby boy" touched down from Nordic lands on Thursday the 8th, we finally linked up on Saturday the 10th since he stayed in Caracas, which is where we threw a party that day to celebrate our youngest niece Sarah’s high school graduation. The next day he officially handed over the goods from the old continent: a pack of black athletic socks, a sleek black competitive swimsuit, and a leather case packed with premium ARENA swim gear—specifically, dual-strap neoprene swim goggles, earplugs, and a nose clip. I was absolutely stoked because I can finally swim in peace now; the chlorine had completely wrecked my old suit’s fabric, and during turns it was seriously putting me at risk of an accidental wardrobe malfunction and exposing way too much. Armed with this fresh new gear, we hit the pool this past Wednesday to get our swim ritual on and treat our bodies right.

The only thing that changed was obviously the extra time it took to put on all the "gadgets" since it was our first time using earplugs and a nose clip, which caused a bit of a struggle to get them properly adjusted. After a quick warm-up, we dove into the water, starting with a moderate stroke before going full beast mode on the fourth lap as usual. A couple of extra laps in, out of nowhere, I realized my left earplug had pulled a disappearing act in the water. It must’ve slipped out without me noticing, because the moment I stopped, I scanned the whole area trying to spot it. Nothing. Totally bummed out, we pushed through the workout with a heavy heart because losing something so meaningful—a gift straight from your own kid—on day one just sucks. It’s crazy how something so trivial can completely ruin your mood. It made us realize that all that talk about "detachment from material things" is easier said than done, because otherwise, it wouldn't have killed our vibe like that. We kept swimming, but honestly, it was more out of pure discipline than actual motivation.

And amidst all the random thoughts that race through your head while swimming, since I just couldn't shake the obsession over those earplugs, it suddenly clicked that because they're made of rubber, they might actually be floating, which is why I missed it before. Sure enough, the second we paused to scan the pool's surface, we spotted the plug so far away it left us wondering how the heck it even drifted over there. We rescued it, popped it back in the ear, and crushed the rest of the workout non-stop, with our good vibes fully restored. Can something so tiny really have that much power over a person? Based on this story, absolutely. Someone who doesn't value other people's efforts or gifts wouldn't have given it a second thought, but we're just not built that way. An earplug, my kingdom for an earplug.
