When Brewers rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt went yard and shook the bleachers at Tropicana Field during the 12th frame of Game 4 of the 122nd Fall Classic, pitting the Tampa Bay Rays against Milwaukee on National Beer Day, every fan back in the Brew City was already soaking in suds, celebrating a world title that has eluded the franchise for 58 years. But baseball ain't about celebrating too early, and drama is always the main character in an incredibly fair game where the visiting team still has to record the final out to seal the deal. That's when the Tampa Bay boys, who didn't get there by accident and certainly not for their good looks, made sure to remind everyone about those old-school lessons on playing small ball to survive. And since a potential first out in the bottom of the 12th was wiped out when hot corner man Joey Ortiz uncorked a throwing error to first base, the Rays found a loophole to stay alive and come back for a 4-3 thriller.

And after getting blown out 10-1 in Game 3, Tampa bounced back in Game 4 to avoid getting swept, but the script wasn't easy on anyone. As has been the story throughout the series, the arms on both sides threw absolute seeds to keep things locked down, leaving it up to high-IQ approach at the dish, aggressive baserunning, and defensive miscues to decide the ballgame. The runs trickled in between the second and fifth frames, putting the game on ice in a two-two deadlock that both bullpens managed to navigate. As the ninth inning approached, the tension turned up with every duck on the pond and every web gem out in the field. Rays center fielder Jhonny DeLuca seemingly cloned himself out there, making huge plays with both the leather and the lumber to lock up the MVP honors for the night, even over Ben Williamson, who picked up the walk-off knock to send the Brew Crew packing.

Down the road everyone will wonder what if Joey Ortiz had retired Junior Caminero on that routine grounder instead of throwing it away to first base in the 12th frame because that wasn't the only miscue by the Brew Crew that cost them the tying run which would later be scored by pinch-runner Cedric Mullins. If you don't execute the fundamentals of the game which are exactly what's deciding wins and losses in this series you might be riding a hot streak but it's gonna bite you eventually. The Rays just like the Brew City boys know how to exploit the opponent's weaknesses and for crying out loud they are no scrubs since they finished as the top dogs in the American League while playing in the toughest division in all of baseball. And they pulled it off without the three-headed monster of Caminero, Aranda, and Díaz doing any damage at all because they were completely invisible on the basepaths which shows you just how deep this Florida squad is since they didn't even need their big-name Latin bats to avoid the sweep and as we say in plain English that's a wrap.

How did Venezuela look out there? Outfielder Jackson Chourio put his name right next to a legend—a guy named "Babe Ruth"—by racking up a multi-hit night to reach 10 knocks in his first 4 Fall Classic games, becoming the only two ballplayers in history to pull off that feat. Venezuelan backstop William Contreras made history as the second catcher to rack up 4 defensive runs saved and gun down 6 base-stealers over the first 4 games of a World Series, a milestone untouched since Lance Parrish did it back in 1984. The Rays are still in a tight spot and will opt for a bullpen game tonight since they don't have a traditional starter lined up. The Milwaukee Brewers will counter by handing the ball to their ace Jacob Misiorowski, tasked with the high-stakes job of delivering enough zeroes on the scoreboard to give a historic shot at a world title to a city that has been waiting for 58 years since the franchise was born. The brew and Wisconsin demand it. So be it.
