Hello fellow artists and artisans, I hope you are all doing well. Sometimes I think it's not good to stick to what we know and what we've learned. I'm one of those who believe that every day we must somehow improve upon what we have mastered with ease, thus building a relationship of perfecting what we know. Although there is no standard of perfection, knowing that we are improving helps us greatly to move forward. With this in mind, I want to share with you my latest work. I was commissioned to make a Darth Vader figure. Two years ago, I made one, and although I was amazed at what I did, I have taken this opportunity to surpass my previous work. So, I want to share with you how I made this figure and what details I added that I didn't consider before to make it better. Follow me on this little adventure.
Hola amigos artistas y artesanos, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien. A veces pienso que no es bueno quedarnos solo con lo que sabemos y lo que hemos aprendido, soy de los que piensan que cada día hay que superar de alguna manera lo que dominamos con facilidad, así construir una relación de perfeccionamiento de lo que sabemos, aunque no haya una medida de perfección, pero el hecho de saber que mejoramos nos ayuda mucho a seguir adelante. Con este pensamiento quiero compartir con ustedes mi último trabajo, recibí como encargo el hacer una figura de Darth Vader, hace dos años hice una, y en aquella oportunidad aunque quedé asombrado con lo que hice, he aprovechado esta oportunidad para superar mi trabajo anterior. De manera que quiero compartir con ustedes como hice esta figura y que detalles agregué que antes no tomé en cuenta para hacerla mejor. Síganme en esta pequeña aventura.

I used templates for a human body. What I do is adapt those templates to the character I want to make. But as for the legs, arms, torso, hands, and feet, it's a general rule. I also used 10 beer cans, which I recycled while walking down the street, and I was able to choose the ones I thought were the prettiest.
Utilicé unas plantillas para un cuerpo humano, yo lo que hago es adaptar esas plantillas al personaje que quiero hacer. Pero con lo que tiene que ver como piernas brazos, tronco, manos y pies es algo general. Utilicé también 10 latas de cerveza las cuales las reciclé andando por la calle, y pude escoger las que me parecían las mas bonitas.

While making the limbs, I gradually assembled the body, starting with the legs. Then I made the hands and to mark some parts, I painted the hands and boots that would belong to Darth Vader in black.
Al hacer las extremidades poco a poco fue armando el cuerpo, comenzando desde las piernas, luego hice las manos y para ir marcando ya algunas partes pinto de color negro las manos y las botas que serán de Darth Vader.

I also made the arms. Once I had put together the whole body, I was able to take the measurements for Darth Vader's clothes. This improved my previous design a bit because back then I only painted the whole figure black. Now, however, I went to the trouble of making the clothes. To make them more realistic, I used synthetic leather and sewed along the lines to make them look as similar as possible. You can see below how I make the suit in two pieces and put it on the figure until it is fully dressed.
Hice también los brazos, al armar todo el cuerpo pude tomar las medidas para hacer las vestiduras de Darth Vader, en esto mejoré un poco mi anterior diseño porque aquella vez solo pinté de negro toda la figura, en cambio ahora me tomé la molestia de hacer las vestiduras, y para que tenga mas realismo utilicé cuero sintético, he hice costuras en líneas para que el parecido fuera el mas cercano. Pueden observar luego como voy haciendo en dos piezas el traje y lo voy poniendo a la figura hasta quedar vestido por completo.

Darth Vader's costume is very complete. Remember, it helps him stay alive, and it also includes the tunic the Jedi used, only in black. So I make each part individually: the long vest, then the belt, and then the cape. I make these pieces with a softer fabric.
El traje de Darth Vader es muy completo, recordemos que este le ayuda a mantenerse con vida y también tiene la ´tunica que utilizaban los Jedi, solo que de color negro. Así que voy haciendo cada una de las partes, el chaleco largo, luego el cinturon y también la capa. Estas piezas las hago con una tela más suave.

Next, as part of the costume, I drew Vader's armor, which protects his chest and shoulders. I created this piece by calculating the size of the figure's shoulders and drawing it using a picture of Darth Vader as a reference. Once completed, I began painting it with black spray paint.
A continuación, como parte del traje, dibujé la protección de armadura de Vader, que protege el pecho y los hombros. Esta pieza la hice calculando el tamaño de los hombros de la figura y dibujando usando como referencia una imagen de Darth Vader. Una vez hecha comencé a pintarla con pintura en spray negro.

Then I continue making what would be some accessories, for example, part of the armor that protects the legs, the frame for Darth Vader's artificial respirator, also made from aluminum soda cans, and so are the accessories that go on the belt. The upper part of the armor had the paper covering certain parts removed so that it looks just like the original piece.
Después sigo haciendo lo que serían algunos accesorios, por ejemplo parte de la armadura que protegen las piernas, el cuadro para el respirador artificial de Darth Vader, está hecho también con aluminios de latas de soda, y así también los acessorios que van en el cinturón. La parte superior de la armadura le quitó el papel que recubría ciertas partes para que quede tal cual la pieza original.

Using yellow aluminum foil, I made the letters for Darth Vader's name. These letters were specially made to fit onto a wooden base, which I'll paint black. Next, I make Darth Vader's lightsaber, which is red, using a small wooden rod with an aluminum handle, which I'll then paint red.
Con latas de aluminio de color amarillo hice las letras del nombre de Darth Vader, estas letras las hice especialmente para colocarlas en una base de madera la cual pintaré de color negro. Después hago el sable de luz de Darth Vader el cual es rojo, con una pequeña vara de madera con una empuñadura de aluminio que luego voy pintando de color rojo.

Finally, I begin adding each of the accessories I made separately to the figure. Starting with the chest and shoulder protectors, then the respirator, the belt, and the leg protectors. Next, the cape and the head. I had this one saved from a previous project that involved a keychain, so the head worked for this project. I just had to repaint it. I added the lightsaber to his right hand, and that's how the Sith Lord Darth Vader was finished.
Por último, a la figura en general comienzo a ponerle cada uno de los accesorios que hice por separado. Comenzando con el protector del pecho y hombros, luego el respirador articifial, el cinturón y el protector de las piernas. Seguidamente la capa y también la cabeza, esta la tenía guardada de un trabajo anterior que constaba de un llavero, así que la cabeza me sirvió para este proyecto, solom tuve que pintarla de nuevo, agregué en su mano derecha el sable de luz y así quedó finalizado el Lord Sith Darth Vader.
FINAL WORK
What do you think of the result? I also added an image of a sculpture I made of Boba Fett, I wanted to recreate the scene from The Empire Strikes Back lol. This figure definitely turned out better, I paid all my attention to the small details as well as the suit, if you can look closely you will see that the synthetic leather suit has seams in lines, I did those with the sewing machine because I wanted it to look like the original suit, it was hard work but it was worth it. Qué les ha parecido el resultado? agregué tambien una imagen de una escultura que hice de Boba Fett, quise recrear la escena del Imperio Contraataca jejeje. Esta figura sin duda me quedó mejor, puse toda mi atención en los detalles pequeños así como también en el traje, si puden observar bien verán que el traje de cuero sintético tiene costuras en líneas, esas se las hice con la máquina de coser porque quería que se viera como el traje original, fue un trabajo arduo pero valió la pena. Espero que les haya gustado, es un gusto para mi poder compartir en esta hermosa comunidad, espero volver pronto y sorprenderlos con algo, me despido y les deseo que tengan un Felíz Sábado, hasta pronto!
