Being that I'm on night shifts, these can sometimes have a considerable amount of downtime - which can be broken at any moment. The past several nights have been quite calm. Between midnight and the end of my shift (7 am) I might get 1 or 2 calls, and no consults (there was one consult which was requested at 6:55 a.m., and I passed it on to the next team, who was coming in 5 minutes... seriously, why call for a consult 5 minutes before the end of a shift when the next team can take over? Most medicine consults can wait 5 minutes lol!).
So, rambling asides aside (<-- fun grammar there), I managed to get some snooze time in a few times, each 3+ hours. Tonight's felt quite deep and I was able to wake up feeling rather sharp, which is not something I feel very often these days.
Hopefully I'll have more nights like this so that I'll be coming into my vacation time feeling a bit more fresh - albeit, I'll still be transitioning from a night schedule to a day schedule.
Looking forward to this genuine time off from work. Let the burnout melt away.
