Week Adrian Lenses.jpg

This is the #51st edition of the "Week through Adrian's Lenses" weekly Hive and crypto news roundup. From now on on Fridays instead of Sundays!

Let's see what we have for this week.

Week on Hive

11 of 22 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

Governance / Development / Dapps

Blocktrades Team Working Toward HAF 2.0

HAF 2.0 should be easier to deploy and maintain (both the backend server and web apps based on it), and it increases performance while decreasing hardware requirements.

The team worked on other apps and tools too (the HAF-based block explorer, Denser, Helpy, WAX, Clive, beekeeper, etc.), but Dan mentioned the devs involved should publish their own updates as they have something to communicate. Clive is a good example of updates being published, Dan remarked (and I agree).

Read on for the full details.

HiveAuth Mobile Is Now Available on Android

This is interesting. A security-focused Hive mobile wallet, compared to Hive Keychain (mobile or browser plugin), which is ease-of-use focused. @arcange introduces HiveAuth Mobile, for now only on Android, but soon on iOS too.

Public HafSQL Service For Non-Production Usage

Allow me to expand that title a bit. Basically, @mahdiyari has set up a HAF server that is available for public access, but not to be abused by using it intensively. People with some understanding of SQL can check it out and see what is available on HAF and how to work with it.

Good Exercise of Dev Transparency

Have you seen how gamers record themselves playing (or do it live) and then upload it? And then, others watch how they play and maybe learn a few tricks.

Well, for the general public, watching code being debugged or written may not be as exciting as watching a gameplay recording. But for code geeks who are in a learning phase, it could be interesting.

It can also be used for strict accountability - some freelancing platforms require access to make screenshots every few minutes for projects with payments by the hour. They could be used in case of payment disagreements. I don't think this kind of strictness is very effective, and a reputation system that works would be much better.

@bambukah wrote a dev update, and the thing I haven't seen done before on Hive was the 'LiveCoding session', where one could watch him as he coded (it was recorded if one wanted to watch later).

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

Freechain Available for Public Viewing

Freechain can be publicly viewed between January 1st and 15th, during its first festival showing. @lordbutterfly says it's very important to have as many Hivers watch and vote for it to make the move to the next level.

INLEO Marketing Campaign - Winners!

The last Hive Zealy Marketing Campaign from 2023 ended and winners were announced.

Earn POSH by Sharing Hive posts on Reddit

This option already existed, but there have been some changes to the rules which are explained in this post.

Games

Splinterlands Updates

The last part of the Land 2.0 whitepaper draft was published recently. It refers to the Ancient Ruins project and the Secret of Praetoria.

@clayboyn also published a couple of new proposals for the DAO.

HoloZing Updates

On the game account, we have another post with a batch of designs for other healers and starter items.

@acidyo also talks about creature levels and delegations in one of his posts. One of the interesting parts compared to other Hive games is that creature owners could pay someone they delegate the creature to, to level it up (instead of the owner being paid for renting out the NFT).

Meetings / Events / Communities

The Annual Hive Highlight Challenge

@hiveio put forth their annual challenge to create a post with what is your highlight of 2023 on Hive. This is for regular people to participate, not dapp or project accounts. Check out the details!

Week in the Crypto World

Bitcoin Spot ETFs Must Have Cash Settlement ONLY

The SEC stands firm in its position and there will be NO in-kind settlement for Bitcoin Spot ETFs! That means shares in Bitcoin ETFs cannot be purchased with Bitcoin, only with fiat.

Nigeria Reverses Policies on Innovative Technologies

Nigeria is one of the countries that imposed a crypto ban (in February 2021). Now, the ban has been lifted, and banks and firms can deal directly or facilitate crypto transactions.

Moreover, they started a host of AI-related initiatives.

We are in the early stages of another race. Those who understand it quickly and take the right decisions (no decision is a decision!) will benefit, the others will at least lose the start, if not the race completely.
