Week Adrian Lenses.jpg

This is the #44th issue of the "Week through Adrian's Lenses" weekly Hive and crypto news roundup.

Let's see what we have for this week.

Week on Hive

23 of 43 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

Splinterlands: Land 1.5 to be Rolled Out on Tuesday!

Although an interim version until Land 2.0 is out next year, Land 1.5 is the first playable phase of the Land expansion, and, therefore, awaited with excitement by many land investors. It was also the subject of this week's town hall, as expected.

If that wasn't enough, for Riftwatchers pack buyers came the final airdrop card of the series, which is a massive tank.

And... from the other side of the business, we've got updated roadmap for GLG:

Questioning the Accountability for DHF Funded Software Development

I've sensed a growing discontent regarding the accountability on spending the DHF funds by projects, especially in areas where progress is less palpable and hard to check by a regular stakeholder.

Starting from similar discussions, lordbutterfy stirred open debates on his post. Please note that the comments are more important than the post itself in this case.

From the positions I saw expressed, it was surprising to see the argument that the "DHF is growing" being brought up, implying maybe that we don't spend enough or that we don't need to be so vigilant. Yes, it's growing, but easy money coming especially when you don't have or don't grow your stake in the ecosystem comes at the expense of the other stakeholders.

The other statement I want to quote (made by @achim03) surprised me at first, but the more I thought about it the truer it is...

I believe that the DHF doesn't give an incentive to actually reach a finished project. The longer it takes to develop something, the longer the project can ask for DHF money. I don't know any other place where you can get money for an idea and nobody checks whether the money you get is actually used as advertised... As long as there are no checks in place, the DHF will always be used in a very unefficent way.

We need to remember that the DHF may be one of the few components existing from the time of the legacy chain that hasn't been seriously upgraded in the meantime. Maybe it's time for serious discussions about it and for a major version 2, which takes into account many of the shortcomings that were discovered with DHF version 1 in practice.

In between, existing projects should post updates on their work, and, for the regular users, a "progress bar" for features or components being worked on can be useful. I know it's difficult to quantify this when developing software, so it doesn't have to be accurate. We know from our experience as users a progress bar isn't a reliable measurement of time for the completion of a task, but it gives an indication of progress. Which is what users/stakeholders want to see... Progress.

As unreliable as they are for measuring time, Splinterlands and GLG use them to show progress on the roadmap for various features. Check the image above for reference!

LeoAds, Evergreen Rewards and More

This week the LeoAds smart contract made the first purchase of LEO using external funds from ad revenue. It added up to over 6,700 LEO that were purchased. The purchases will be weekly, but random, as announced by the team in their post.

We also found out from the same post that besides rewards for LEO stakeholders, evergreen rewards were also kicked off at the same time and will likely be paid monthly. We should also expect the UI update of the wallet next week, to reflect the LeoAds revenue.

The INLEO AMA from this week had important tidbits of information.

Have you also seen the weekly stats for INLEO?

WOO Celebrates 2 Years

Although I don't have a stake in this project, I gotta say I love their presentation for the 2 year anniversary. An intermixing of developments for the game on Hive, live events, new partners, and touching stories about wrestlers and managers who met again after a long time.

Someone Said 2 Years?

Guess who else has been building games on Hive (and not only) for two years? PsyberX answers present!

You Are Both Juniors!...

... I've put words in @elindos' mouth, thinking that he's been building Exode for longer than 2 years... He didn't say that, instead he revealed the Exode colonization system...

Want a Splinterlands Node License, but Don't Have Funds for a Full One?

The HiveDrip project facilitates buying as little as 1/100th of a node license represented by one EZLICENSE token, so it tokenizes the Splinterlands licenses for validator nodes. Check out the details.

DAB CLUB Token for Sale

Are you a DAB holder? That's for you!

Curiously, you can become a "DAB Club member" even if you don't have any DAB. What you need is 1 CLUB token / account. It costs 30 HBD. Maybe less (or more!) if you buy it after they are issued, from the open market...

Terracore - Idle Player Decay & Bot Greif Balancing

Basically, two things happen:

  • mine rate decay after 5 days of inactivity
  • attack decay by 1 per 5 days of inactivity

Claiming rewards and attacking other players is not considered activity (doesn't burn SCRAP). Upgrading or going on a quest, yes.

Here are the details.

WRC Aftermovie

The aftermovie following the Central European Rally was completed and you can watch it here and share it with the world.

If you prefer more static images, here are some great ones.

Life of Hive

Leicester Business Festival

@shanibeer announced us that the Leicester Business Festival is tomorrow and that's a good opportunity to bring more people to Hive.

She is part of a panel of five, "all with different interests around the blockchain space, and we've invited a broad range of creators, community activists, policy makers and digital media students from both universities in the city to come.".

About "Purple Cow" with @danielvehe and His Young Students

I don't know Spanish, but my native language is of Latin origin, like Spanish, and with the few words I picked up from movies, maybe I understood about 30% of the recording of his class on the Purple Cow. It's interesting that at the beginning he asked his students if they are purple cows. Only one or two said yes. Sounds about right...

Health Outreach... A Package Deal with the Hive Boreholes Project

I don't know if this happens at every borehole that is launched, but at the inauguration of the recent ones from Asamankama (#12 and #13), there was a doctor present to offer some free medical consultations.

LaBitConf Buenos Aires

From what I read, this is the biggest crypto conference in LATAM. Hive has a pavilion there, but I haven't heard of anyone speaking from our ecosystem. This is what I would call the official announcement on Hive for the event, and this is one of @fermionico's posts during the event. By how early he went to Buenos Aires, he most likely helped set up our pavilion there.

I want to share this post too! :) As I said, I don't understand much Spanish, but the idea of making a video of two lady neighbors talking on the phone about crypto, bitcoin and Hive (one answering questions asked by the other, kind of bored too) was fantastic! That type of content is great for creating awareness and sparking curiosity in the masses, in my opinion... Because they can relate.

From the Hive Orientation Series...

In the Philippines, Hive Orientation reached Grade 12 students at Ilihan Integrated School. The author @indayclara remarked that participation in the QA session was low and was wondering if they were shy or overwhelmed. How about a 3rd option? Tired after 3 hours... But overwhelmed seems reasonable. There was only one QA session at the end, after all presentations...

Week in the Crypto World

BlackRock Attacks on Multiple Fronts

You didn't expect the biggest asset management firm in the world to become a bitcoin maxi, did you? To be honest, before their bitcoin ETF application I was vaguely familiar with them, but as all giants, when they go into something, they go big (which might not mean big for them). So, after they applied for a Bitcoin spot ETF which has every chance of being approved in the close future, they are now getting ready for an Ethereum spot ETF.

USDC and EURC Stablecoins Will be Upgraded

Circle will upgrade the smart contracts for USDC and EURC to version 2.2, and include 6 changes. I haven't figured out if there will be a risk for us in this upgrade, if we hold USDC (or EURC - anyone uses this?), but the upgrade is supposed to be compatible with previous versions.
