It's another exciting new week, and even more exciting because it's a Needleworkmonday, and today I would love to share with you the beautiful circle dress I made my cousin who is expecting our little bundle of joy in a few months.

The pregnancy period is one of the most beautiful experiences in a woman's life, watching your body go through different changes to accommodate a new life growing in you is something beyond words can explain, I've gone through this experience, so I understood how my cousin felt when she felt reluctant to go to the wedding party of a mutual friend, we all bought same ankara fabric as a show of support to the bride,

Who said a soon-to-be mum can't be stylish? All she needs is a comfortable stylish dress and I'm happy to make that happen, making sure she doesn't miss out on the fun of the wedding party, and also feel beautiful as she glows with pregnant.

Materials used

  • Ankara fabric

  • plain colored Damask fabric

  • lace trimming

  • Zipper

  • Thread

Cutting and Sewing Process

IMG_20240809_132003_558.jpg

  • I started by folding the Ankara fabric in bias (triangular) form into four folds, this is because I want it to be circular and free, not straight and fitting

IMG_20240809_133626_917.jpg

  • I drafted and cut out the gown pattern on this fold, and the pattern came out like a full a-line dress but more like a half circle

  • Here is the front, and also the back pattern

  • To give it that stylish effect, I cut out the upper side of the front and back pattern, forming a V shape at the cut-out edge

  • Next, I transferred the cut-out part to that Damask fabric and joined it to the lower ankara part

  • I also cut out facings to turn the necklines neatly

  • Moving on, I sewed the shoulders

  • And also repeated the cut-out process for the funnel sleeves I drafted

  • I joined the sleeves to the armhole areas, sewed the sides, and attached a zipper at the back and also pockets by the sides.

  • Finally, using the lace trimming, I covered the joined area of the damask and ankara fabric, for a more beautiful design.

Look how a maternity dress turned out looking stylish, even non-pregnant ladies fell in love with this dress design and want one for themselves. So I say again, who says pregnant mums can't be fashionable?😅, of course, they can.

My cousin is happy with her new beautiful dress and can't wait to rock her baby bump looking beautiful in her dress.
