Have you ever been stuck at what to offer as a gift to someone you know is of high esteem, it might be your pastor, boss at work, or an older and comfortable family member who you know deserves to be appreciated for their kindness towards you. Let me hop you on a gift such people will appreciate,

know that sometimes, you don't need to buy them an expensive or designer gift because most of the time they can easily afford these items, the one give I believe they would appreciate more no matter how little it seems is a hand made item, get buy with a creative DIY present, because the love, care and time we dedicate into making them one easily shows our appreciation, and in turn they value those gift and won't abandon them among their piles of what they already have,

Today, I will be sharing with you one of such gifts I made for a favourite aunt of mine, I love her so much, she is kind-hearted and never spares me with words of encouragement, especially in my down moments. So I thought of surprising her with a beautiful brocade skirt made by me as a token of love and appreciation, yeah, she already has lots of skirts but I bet mine will become the most cherished of them all.

First, I went sourcing for the fabric, I knew I would be using a brocade but I had to get a unique one, not just any, because she is special to me, Thankfully I found this wine coloured brocade fabric which has a touch of gold and black, an excellent choice, because I already see her pairing the skirt I would make with different matching colours of shirt or blouse. And that is what being thoughtful with your gift means.

• Brocade fabric
• Satin fabric(used as lining)
• Zipper
• Stay

Cutting And Sewing Process

• I started by drafting and cutting out the front skirt pattern of fold, measuring out her waist, hip, and skirt length measurements

• Using the front pattern, I traced it on the fabric to cut out the back pattern, this time adding a zipper allowance to the center of the back pattern

• I went further to turn each of the patterns with their lining fabric pattern which was cut the same way, for both front and back, as the lining helps give durability to the skirt.

• Continuing, I joined the front and back by the side with the seam allowance allocated when cutting, I also joined the back pattern, leaving out the slit ends and zipper allowance.

• Then I went further to cut out the skirt waistband band which I sewed around the waist area

• Finally, I sewed the zipper to the back of the dress and that completes the making process of this beautiful skirt.

My aunt appreciated her skirt gift and I was more than happy to have her fit it, "This will be my first outfit to work this week" she had said, after fitting, making my heart glad, to be a part of her life.
