Happy new week everyone, I hope you are all having a good day wherever you are. It's a beautiful Monday morning here, the sun is shining, with a cool gentle breeze in the air. A perfect day to get to work and bring your dreams alive so let's make the most of this fresh start to the week.

Talking about dreams, or should I say wishes, do you know everyone no matter how old or young they have one wish or more and I know these wishes vary, the heart of humans are on so many problems, but when it comes to children, it doesn't have to be complicated ideas and when you are in a position where you could grant a little one's wish, I don't think there is a better satisfaction than being able to grant a wish especially when this wish makes you feel like a fairy godmother, sprinkling a little bit of magic into someone's life with my sewing skills, sewing is magical in a way, don't you think so as well?

It seems I've just entered a sewing season for little girls because the more I make a girl's dress, another little girl would always somehow pop up on the picture wanting a new dress herself. In my last needlework post, I shared the making process of a beautiful dress I made for 3 year old who was jealous of her elder sister's new dress, and I had my daughter model the dress for me, that she fell in love with the dress and wants one herself, little did I know that this would spark yet another dress request! Guess what? My neighbor's daughter though she is a bit older, about 5 years of age, wants her dress too, I don't know what is it with little girls and wanting a pretty dress, but I don't mind, as long as I have the capacity, I would keep on granting that wish of a new dress, so I decided to work on her read today, while my daughter would hold on a bit, she's my daughter after all, and would always have me making new dresses for her.

To make this gathered dress with puffy sleeves,

Materials used

  • Ankara fabric(I always have leftover fabrics from previously made dresses, it feels good to put them to use positively)

  • lace trimmings

  • Lining fabric

  • Thread

  • Zipper

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • The upper bodice pattern I the first thing I did, I drafted both the front and back and replicated the patterns on the lining pieces

  • Next, I turned the pattern using their lining, first around the neckline then the sides for a neat finish, then I joined them by the sides, inserting a side belt which would be used to hold the waist firmly, children gowns are mostly free fitted because they grow so fast

  • For the base of the dress, I measured the round waist and multiplied what I got by 2.5, which I used in cutting the length of fabric I gathered here

  • Then I sewed it around the waist

Finally, I inserted a zipper and also drafted and sewed the sleeves around both armholes.

It looked bare at the waist, I didn't have a matching plain fabric to design the waist like I did with this previous dress, so I instead attached these lace trimmings to it for more details.

Here is the pretty finished look, fairy godmother duties are done for today.
