When Kindness Needs Receipts

In our present world today, to freely give out something has become so difficult. There was a time in this country, according to one of the stories that I heard, that back then, if a villager was passing through someone's farm and he was hungry, he could easily ask the farmer for food and fruits, and it would be given. But now, that is not the case; even if you see someone eating and you ask, such a person can turn you down easily. And in our society today, the act of kindness has now become a showoff just in the name of charity. People now carry cameras up and down just because they are giving. Sometimes I say to myself, is this charity from the heart or something to post on social media to trend?

I could remember, just a couple of months ago, one of these Nigerian influencers raised Non Governmental Organisationb (NGO) money to support some kids. He used the money to renovate part of the school he initially planned for, but later on, it was heard that he kept the remaining part of the money in his pocket, and people started calling him "NGO money". I was pissed at that action because why would people collect money from the masses and divert it into their pockets?

But yet, I am not saying that charity work should stop because of some selfish people putting the money in their pockets. I believe that charity work does not necessarily have to be big; it can be just buying a school sandal for that little boy always going to school barefooted in your community. It can be giving that neighbor who is hungry a cup of rice. I believe that doing charity does not require us taking cameras up and down or having to link it with NGOs because people have turned this into a scam, and our little act of kindness off the public scene and praises goes a way longer than seeking public attention.

Every time I give, it is always from my heart because I do not need public approval. Those little, little changes I give to people who are truly in need are better than a camera following me up and down and posting it online because the impact is all I need to see, not praises.

In our society today, some people are obsessed with how things appear, and doing the charity work with a free will and no showoff is like going against the rules. Like I said earlier, it is not about seeking public acceptance but about pure intention. Whether you decide to give your neighbor #100 or #10000, let it come from your heart, not to show off.

Like we all know it, and if we want to be true to ourselves, we have to be kind and honest when doing this charity of a thing because true giving comes from our heart, and that is even what God will use if he wants to reward us.
