Everybody agrees that the government works for the people and not the contrary. Every country has its own different characteristics. Some hide more than others, but we find hidden actions everywhere in the end. In an era where all around the world we are getting news about the US coming elections with pretty shocking news in this pre-election heat, there is also a concern from the population about how governments can be sneaky and perform actions behind the scenes. But why do governments hide from their people? They give one explanation of hidden information concerning National Security, and the other is when they go corrupt and hide financial math in their pocket. But at least in the two countries that I lived in, most of the information about decisions can be accessed by anyone, even the unpopular ones.

When you join as a government employee, you do a background check, and depending on your position, you get a certain level of a security check which can go deeper. Some government employees are in touch with sensitive information, such as private information from the nation's citizens, or another type of information that could be bad in the wrong hands, such as other nations that could misuse it, such as military information. This type of information is good to keep in different levels of information security for sure. However, all the government monetary transactions and decisions should be public, including the wages of its employees.

In Brazil there is a portal to check the wages of each employee, most of the decisions concerning who gets raises or not are very unpopular. In Brazil, there are classes of public servants that have more privileges than the others. For example, members of the Senate and deputies are responsible for deciding when they need a raise or adding a new benefit for their career. All of this is pretty transparent how they make this decision. Transparency isn't the problem, the problem is how unfair they are with that. While public teachers and health employees don't get raises at the same rate. They just don't care about their decisions matching the interests of the country, at least it looks like. Other privileged employees are the ones in the judiciary sector, not only judges but all employees working even at the administrative level. Even with all these benefits to make their salaries even better, some politicians and members of the judiciary are still caught once in a while in the misappropriation of public funds. But this is part of the corruption rooted in the country, not a matter of transparency.

In Canada, I don't see many problems with transparency in decisions and monetary allocation of the government as well. For sure many decisions are questionable and unpopular. Carbon tax implementation and COVID mandates are some of them. Many decisions make people more angry than happy, but still, we know what is going on up there. Recently there was a trip made by the prime minister that was pretty questionable of how public money was being spent. We get mad with this news, but again it goes a bit about whether politicians really care about us, or if they really want to be in power to make decisions on our behalf.

Everything discussed in a parliament or by different government organizations needs to be public. They can be unpopular sometimes and cause rage but still, everyone needs to access this information. In democratic countries at least, if something is hidden can be a reason for the impeachment of a government employee. I like this way, and we always have the chance to elect a different party or person in the next election with the weight of bad decisions outweigh the good ones in our point of view. I hope that in the future all the countries could improve their transparency with their population, bringing more democracy, since we people are the ones who deserve being treated well where we live.

Todo mundo concorda que o governo trabalha para o povo e não o contrário. Cada país tem suas características diferentes. Alguns escondem mais do que outros, mas encontramos ações ocultas em todos os lugares no final. Em uma era em que, em todo o mundo, estamos recebendo notícias sobre as próximas eleições dos EUA com notícias bastante chocantes neste calor pré-eleitoral, também há uma preocupação da população sobre como os governos podem ser sorrateiros e realizar ações nos bastidores. Mas por que os governos se escondem de seu povo? Eles dão uma explicação de informações ocultas relativas à segurança nacional, e a outra é quando eles se corrompem e escondem as contas financeiras em seus bolsos. Mas, pelo menos nos dois países em que vivi, a maior parte das informações sobre decisões pode ser acessada por qualquer pessoa, até mesmo as impopulares.

Quando você se torna um funcionário público, você faz uma verificação de antecedentes e, dependendo do seu cargo, você recebe um determinado nível de verificação de segurança que pode ser mais profundo. Alguns funcionários do governo estão em contato com informações sensíveis, como informações privadas dos cidadãos da nação, ou outro tipo de informação que poderia ser prejudicial nas mãos erradas, como outras nações que poderiam usá-las indevidamente, como informações militares. Esse tipo de informação é bom manter em diferentes níveis de segurança da informação, com certeza. No entanto, todas as transações monetárias do governo e decisões devem ser públicas, incluindo os salários de seus funcionários.

No Brasil, há um portal para verificar os salários de cada funcionário, a maioria das decisões sobre quem recebe aumentos ou não são muito impopulares. No Brasil, há classes de servidores públicos que têm mais privilégios do que outras. Por exemplo, membros do Senado e deputados são responsáveis por decidir quando precisam de um aumento ou adicionar um novo benefício à sua carreira. Tudo isso é bastante transparente sobre como eles tomam essa decisão. A transparência não é o problema, o problema é o quão injustos eles são com isso. Enquanto professores públicos e funcionários de saúde não recebem aumentos na mesma proporção. Eles simplesmente não se importam se suas decisões correspondem aos interesses do país, pelo menos parece. Outros funcionários privilegiados são os do setor judiciário, não apenas juízes, mas todos os funcionários que trabalham até mesmo no nível administrativo. Mesmo com todos esses benefícios para melhorar ainda mais seus salários, alguns políticos e membros do judiciário ainda são pegos de vez em quando na apropriação indevida de fundos públicos. Mas isso faz parte da corrupção enraizada no país, não é uma questão de transparência.

No Canadá, também não vejo muitos problemas com a transparência nas decisões e alocação monetária do governo. Com certeza, muitas decisões são questionáveis e impopulares. A implementação do imposto sobre o carbono e os mandatos da COVID são alguns exemplos. Muitas decisões deixam as pessoas mais irritadas do que felizes, mas ainda sabemos o que está acontecendo lá em cima. Recentemente, houve uma viagem feita pelo primeiro-ministro que foi bastante questionável sobre como o dinheiro público estava sendo gasto. Ficamos zangados com essas notícias, mas, novamente, trata-se um pouco de se os políticos realmente se importam conosco ou se realmente querem estar no poder para tomar decisões em nosso nome.

Tudo o que é discutido em um parlamento ou por diferentes organizações governamentais precisa ser público. Eles podem ser impopulares às vezes e causar raiva, mas ainda assim, todos precisam acessar essas informações. Em países democráticos, pelo menos, se algo for escondido pode ser motivo para o impeachment de um funcionário público. Eu gosto desse jeito, e sempre temos a chance de eleger um partido ou pessoa diferente na próxima eleição, com o peso das más decisões superando as boas em nosso ponto de vista. Espero que no futuro todos os países possam melhorar sua transparência com sua população, trazendo mais democracia, já que nós, povo, somos os que merecemos ser bem tratados onde vivemos.
