My childhood and teens were during a transition period in the world. Many times I explained how technology evolved crazily, but also society's ways. Not many years ago women got more rights, and the generation of my parents probably was one of the first generation of adults where the women started to be more normal to find women and men sharing tasks at home, about job and house duties. Also, we started to see more sexual liberty with LGBTQ+ rights getting more attention. But there was something that used to bother me a lot with my father when we were in public. He used to stigmatize a lot of people sometimes even close to them.

I remember many teens my age started to pierce their ears, a trend having one year pierced between the teens. My father used to point out saying that it was a "gay thing". Also, it really bothered me when we were in a restaurant and he used to point out to a table with two women chatting saying: "Look! Probably these two are lesbos". So the lack of filter of my father was terrible but he used to say that he was exercising his freedom of speech. Is that so?

Freedom of speech is important, we need to be free about our thoughts even if in a different opinion. Also, we need to be free to exercise our beliefs. But that can't hurt anyone else. Our barrier is always where we step on the other's feet. So we are free to talk and expose anything that belongs to our personality unless we are making the other next to us feel subjugated. The problem is that many identitarian groups also utilize that to try to censor others. The world can't enter a balance where we just respect each other and our differences but also let small things pass.

Freedom of speech is also very different from country to country. You can see some countries having more problems with that compared to others. In Canada, despite people complaining I see people exercising a lot, but compared to some other countries where you can't even say that you are homosexual without any consequences it is very good. The problem in general in democratic countries is that if your opinion isn't what is the trend, people will try to subjugate you. For example, I was making my point of view in a Brazilian point of view about my thoughts about being against the left candidate that is in power and also against the most popular right candidate in the country. I was saying that I think that those can't be the only options. I received many critics most of them tried to put me down that I would support the corrupt or that I would soon mention a podcast about a known crazy guy that only talks "BS". So they tried to invalidate what I said saying that I was dumb or going to the dark side of humanity. Or like many say today a victim of "canceled culture".

Nowadays we can say the freedom of speech has more limits and canceled culture is making it a type of oppression. People are thinking twice or three times before speaking with a fear of being canceled. However, that is happening in democratic countries where the government provides more freedom of speech. In countries where no one can speak without the fear of being arrested is worse and I can feel that in those cases the oppression can be worse when it comes from the government and their police forces.

Minha infância e adolescência foram durante um período de transição no mundo. Muitas vezes expliquei como a tecnologia evoluiu loucamente, mas também os costumes da sociedade. Não muitos anos atrás, as mulheres obtiveram mais direitos, e a geração dos meus pais provavelmente foi uma das primeiras gerações de adultos em que as mulheres começaram a ser mais normais ao encontrar mulheres e homens dividindo tarefas em casa, sobre trabalho e deveres domésticos. Além disso, começamos a ver mais liberdade sexual com os direitos LGBTQ+ recebendo mais atenção. Mas havia algo que costumava me incomodar muito com meu pai quando estávamos em público. Ele costumava estigmatizar muitas pessoas, às vezes até próximas a elas.

Lembro que muitos adolescentes da minha idade começaram a furar as orelhas, uma tendência que tinha um ano de furo entre os adolescentes. Meu pai costumava apontar dizendo que era uma "coisa gay". Além disso, isso realmente me incomodava quando estávamos em um restaurante e ele costumava apontar para uma mesa com duas mulheres conversando dizendo: "Olha! Provavelmente essas duas são lésbicas". Então a falta de filtro do meu pai era terrível, mas ele costumava dizer que estava exercendo sua liberdade de expressão. É isso mesmo?

A liberdade de expressão é importante, precisamos ser livres sobre nossos pensamentos, mesmo que em uma opinião diferente. Além disso, precisamos ser livres para exercer nossas crenças. Mas isso não pode machucar ninguém. Nossa barreira é sempre onde pisamos nos pés do outro. Então somos livres para falar e expor qualquer coisa que pertença à nossa personalidade, a menos que estejamos fazendo o outro ao nosso lado se sentir subjugado. O problema é que muitos grupos identitários também usam isso para tentar censurar os outros. O mundo não consegue entrar em um equilíbrio onde apenas respeitamos uns aos outros e nossas diferenças, mas também deixamos as pequenas coisas passarem.

A liberdade de expressão também é muito diferente de país para país. Você pode ver alguns países tendo mais problemas com isso do que outros. No Canadá, apesar das pessoas reclamarem, vejo pessoas se exercitando muito, mas comparado a alguns outros países onde você não pode nem dizer que é homossexual sem nenhuma consequência, é muito bom. O problema em geral em países democráticos é que se sua opinião não for a tendência, as pessoas tentarão subjugá-lo. Por exemplo, eu estava expressando meu ponto de vista de um ponto de vista brasileiro sobre meus pensamentos sobre ser contra o candidato de esquerda que está no poder e também contra o candidato de direita mais popular do país. Eu estava dizendo que acho que essas não podem ser as únicas opções. Recebi muitas críticas, a maioria delas tentando me rebaixar, dizendo que eu apoiaria os corruptos ou que eu logo mencionaria um podcast sobre um cara louco conhecido que só fala "besteira". Então eles tentaram invalidar o que eu disse, dizendo que eu era burro ou que estava indo para o lado negro da humanidade. Ou como muitos dizem hoje, uma vítima da "cultura cancelada".

Hoje em dia podemos dizer que a liberdade de expressão tem mais limites e a cultura do cancelamento está tornando isso um tipo de opressão. As pessoas estão pensando duas ou três vezes antes de falar com medo de serem canceladas. No entanto, isso está acontecendo em países democráticos onde o governo fornece mais liberdade de expressão. Em países onde ninguém pode falar sem medo de ser preso é pior e eu posso sentir que nesses casos a opressão pode ser pior quando vem do governo e suas forças policiais.
