I was chatting this week about a new project I am involved in with AI. The person I was chatting with was someone of a similar age to me. So this person also lived and saw all the technological evolution I saw. We were discussing how tools like chat GPT-like tools are amazing and how these tools can solve any type of question, even with some mistakes sometimes. I replaced my search questions in Google with chat GPT for example. However, this person mentioned to me that she is a bit afraid to present this type of tool to her daughter, who is still a small kid. Her concern is that she turns lazy and doesn't acquire the logical thinking of solving problems. And that is pretty true.

If we ask Chat GPT to write an abstract about a certain topic, it will write for us. He can also write even programming scripts on behalf of us. So if we are using a tool to think on behalf of our brain, we don't stimulate our neurons to create connections. Solve-problem is a skill that our brain needs to exercise, how does linking knowledge end up in a text? Or how to create a programming script to solve a specific problem. If a human being starts using the computer to solve their question from the beginning of their lives, this person will grow with a lack of important neuronal connections. But is this a problem that it only appeared with chat GPT? No.

This problem has existed since I was a school student when people only copied what encyclopedia books had written. Using entirely copied paragraphs from a book also doesn't stimulate our neurons to create new connections. That problem started with books, and it got worse with the internet of course. Because at least with books we had to know how to look for information. With internet search engines it is just a matter of writing about topics that you want to know. In addition, the term "copy/paste" or copypasta was created after that. People started to find the information and with a couple of clicks, the information was on a piece of paper to deliver to the teacher. I was a high school teacher in an era before chat GPT, until 2017. I used to receive many biology assignments that were purely copypasta from Wikipedia. During my classes, it was tough to stimulate the teenagers to think and answer about life problems and what we learned about biology.

I remember an example from class: "What happens if we touch a table after a sick person coughs in the hand and touches the table, and after that we touch it?", the kids would answer "We can get sick", but then my question "why?" made me hear the sounds of crickets outside of the class. That type of feedback was pretty normal even after a whole class and assignment about bacteria and viruses. Were they dumb? No. The problem is the lack of logical thinking. Lack of stimulation to learn.

We are going towards more and more in a collective laziness to search and learn about something. The fix would be a global conscientization of how to use these amazing tools that shouldn't be used to cheat the system. We as humans still need to learn about the topics that we need to live our life, as a professional or just as a world citizen. Use these tools with responsibility not just to work for you. But only in a way to touch the information and learn from it. We all should be aware of the problems that can cause us and by improving ourselves in this context we can also change the world.

Eu estava conversando esta semana sobre um novo projeto com IA no qual estou envolvido. A pessoa com quem eu estava conversando tinha uma idade semelhante à minha. Então essa pessoa também viveu e viu toda a evolução tecnológica que eu vi. Estávamos discutindo como ferramentas como ferramentas semelhantes ao Chat GPT são incríveis e como essas ferramentas podem resolver qualquer tipo de pergunta, mesmo com alguns erros às vezes. Por exemplo, substituí minhas perguntas de busca no Google pelo Chat GPT. No entanto, essa pessoa mencionou que está um pouco preocupada em apresentar esse tipo de ferramenta para sua filha, que ainda é uma criança pequena. A preocupação dela é que ela fique preguiçosa e não adquira o pensamento lógico para resolver problemas. E isso é bem verdadeiro.

Se pedirmos para o Chat GPT escrever um resumo sobre um determinado tópico, ele escreverá para nós. Ele também pode escrever scripts de programação em nosso nome. Portanto, se estamos usando uma ferramenta para pensar em nome do nosso cérebro, não estimulamos nossos neurônios a criar conexões. Resolver problemas é uma habilidade que nosso cérebro precisa exercitar, como conectar conhecimentos para criar um texto? Ou como criar um script de programação para resolver um problema específico. Se um ser humano começar a usar o computador para resolver suas perguntas desde o início de suas vidas, essa pessoa crescerá com uma falta de importantes conexões neuronais. Mas isso é um problema que só surgiu com o Chat GPT? Não.

Esse problema existe desde que eu era aluno na escola, quando as pessoas simplesmente copiavam o que os livros de enciclopédia haviam escrito. Usar parágrafos totalmente copiados de um livro também não estimula nossos neurônios a criar novas conexões. Esse problema começou com os livros e piorou com a internet, é claro. Porque pelo menos com os livros tínhamos que saber como buscar informações. Com os mecanismos de busca da internet, é apenas uma questão de escrever sobre os tópicos que você deseja saber. Além disso, o termo "copiar/colar" ou copypasta foi criado após isso. As pessoas começaram a encontrar as informações e, com alguns cliques, as informações estavam em um pedaço de papel para entregar ao professor. Eu era professor do ensino médio em uma era antes do Chat GPT, até 2017. Costumava receber muitas tarefas de biologia que eram puramente copypasta da Wikipedia. Durante minhas aulas, era difícil estimular os adolescentes a pensar e responder sobre problemas da vida e o que aprendemos sobre biologia.

Lembro-me de um exemplo da aula: "O que acontece se tocarmos em uma mesa depois que uma pessoa doente tossir na mão e tocar a mesa, e depois tocarmos nela?", as crianças responderiam "Podemos ficar doentes", mas então minha pergunta "por quê?" me fez ouvir o som dos grilos fora da sala. Esse tipo de feedback era bastante normal mesmo depois de uma aula inteira e uma tarefa sobre bactérias e vírus. Eles eram burros? Não. O problema é a falta de pensamento lógico. Falta de estímulo para aprender.

< p> Estamos caminhando cada vez mais para uma preguiça coletiva de pesquisar e aprender sobre algo. A solução seria uma conscientização global de como usar essas ferramentas incríveis que não devem ser usadas para enganar o sistema. Nós, como humanos, ainda precisamos aprender sobre os tópicos que precisamos para viver nossa vida, como profissional ou apenas como cidadão do mundo. Use essas ferramentas com responsabilidade, não apenas para trabalhar para você. Mas apenas de uma forma de tocar na informação e aprender com ela. Todos nós devemos estar cientes dos problemas que podem nos causar e, ao nos aprimorarmos nesse contexto, também podemos mudar o mundo.
