Yesterday it was a holiday in here: Victoria's Day. The birthday celebration of England's queen who favored the Province's unification to create our country. So I couldn't post in here with kids at home. It is interesting to go to celebrations here in Canada, including the most important day of the country, July 1st, the Confederation Day. We didn't have any big independence fight like most of our brothers in America against their colonies. We became a country through agreements. But still, like any public celebration, we don't see crowded streets. Big cities' populations aren't as big as many South American or African cities.

I saw @tergan604 post about the Canadian birthrate and started to compare it with other countries, especially the ones in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. I got some interesting conclusions. Yes, the birth rate is less than 1.5 per woman here in Canada. But nowadays in Mexico and they are also under 2. India has now 2.08.

So how the density of these countries is still bigger? Their birthrate in 1960 was over 6 children per woman, while Canada was already below 4. So the slope of the curve during this period is smaller compared to these other countries. Here in Canada, our curve also is reducing year after year but slowly compared to these other countries. We reached 2 children per woman in 1970, while Brazil for example reached in 2004.

Countries in development started to get conscient about children quantity is proportion to house income. So maybe we should protect ourselves to avoid getting tons of kids when we can barely pay for the expenses of one child. On top of that, women started to work and it is a concern for them to stay at home for long periods when they are working. They are also a source of income nowadays, sometimes the main source depending on the house.

Canada's government has been investing in immigrants for a while. I am an immigrant for example. Well, I didn't have any direct immigrant project help, but of course, I used some resources inside the country to help immigrants stay. One example was the free courses in the work market that my wife attended or French courses that they only make available to newcomers, which in my opinion is unfair when you think in a country that wants to sell bilingualism as a main characteristic.

While Canada is struggling to get people in the country. Many other countries have found a way to reduce it. China had a one-child policy valid up to 2016. Now they allow two kids. China reached a stressful limit in its population. Almost 20% of the world's population is there. The human population became a plague and the resources started. Many other places are in a very critical way like Nigeria, as I saw many posts about that yesterday.

Should the government take severe measures in places like Nigeria as the Chinese government? I don't know. I am always against the government making decisions about what happens within a household. But if the government doesn't take some measures, we will let nature do it. Well, it is an option but we won't like the results of it. But of course, governments need to start first with better education. Maybe in Nigeria, they are failing with that. Better education makes people realize that sex brings more kids, and to sustain more kids, I need to work.

Many governments also reward population growth with child benefits proportional to several kids. Populist governments love that. They want to help everyone to have their food at the end of the day. But many smart families decide that they will have more kids only to be able to get more benefits. The balance of helping everyone to sustain themselves should have a limit. These programs are important, but maybe they should have limits.

The balance of helping the family with kids and restricting its number is a game that needs always to be reviewed. I agree with many posts, especially from my friends in Canada and Brazil that in these places government should reduce their concern with population growth, and just continue to invest in education, especially concerning youth pregnancy. But in countries like Nigeria, where you see birth rates over 5, it is very concerning, and the government should seek solutions to reduce that.

Ontem foi feriado aqui: Dia da Vitória. A celebração do aniversário da rainha da Inglaterra que favoreceu a unificação das Províncias para criar nosso país. Então eu não pude postar aqui com as crianças em casa. É interessante ir às celebrações aqui no Canadá, incluindo o dia mais importante do país, 1º de julho, o Dia da Confederação. Não tivemos nenhuma grande luta pela independência como a maioria de nossos irmãos na América contra suas colônias. Nos tornamos um país através de acordos. Mas ainda assim, como em qualquer celebração pública, não vemos ruas lotadas. As populações das grandes cidades não são tão grandes quanto muitas cidades da América do Sul ou da África.

Eu vi o post de @tergan604 sobre a taxa de natalidade canadense e comecei a compará-la com outros países, especialmente os da América Latina, África e Ásia. Cheguei a algumas conclusões interessantes. Sim, a taxa de natalidade é menos de 1,5 por mulher aqui no Canadá. Mas atualmente no México também está abaixo de 2. A Índia agora tem 2,08.

Então como a densidade desses países ainda é maior? A taxa de natalidade deles em 1960 era superior a 6 filhos por mulher, enquanto o Canadá já estava abaixo de 4. Então a inclinação da curva durante esse período é menor em comparação com esses outros países. Aqui no Canadá, nossa curva também está diminuindo ano após ano, mas lentamente em comparação com esses outros países. Atingimos 2 filhos por mulher em 1970, enquanto o Brasil, por exemplo, atingiu em 2004.

Os países em desenvolvimento começaram a se conscientizar de que a quantidade de filhos é proporcional à renda familiar. Então talvez devêssemos nos proteger para evitar ter muitos filhos quando mal podemos pagar as despesas de um. Além disso, as mulheres começaram a trabalhar e é uma preocupação para elas ficarem em casa por longos períodos quando estão trabalhando. Elas também são uma fonte de renda atualmente, às vezes a principal fonte dependendo da casa.

O governo do Canadá tem investido em imigrantes há um tempo. Eu sou um imigrante, por exemplo. Bem, eu não tive nenhuma ajuda direta de projetos de imigração, mas claro que usei alguns recursos dentro do país para ajudar os imigrantes a ficarem. Um exemplo foram os cursos gratuitos no mercado de trabalho que minha esposa frequentou ou os cursos de francês que eles só disponibilizam para recém-chegados, o que, na minha opinião, é injusto quando se pensa em um país que quer vender o bilinguismo como uma característica principal.

Enquanto o Canadá está lutando para atrair pessoas para o país, muitos outros países encontraram uma maneira de reduzir isso. A China teve uma política de filho único válida até 2016. Agora eles permitem dois filhos. A China atingiu um limite estressante em sua população. Quase 20% da população mundial está lá. A população humana se tornou uma praga e os recursos começaram. Muitos outros lugares estão em uma situação muito crítica, como a Nigéria, como vi muitos posts sobre isso ontem.

O governo deveria tomar medidas severas em lugares como a Nigéria, como o governo chinês? Eu não sei. Eu sempre sou contra o governo tomar decisões sobre o que acontece dentro de uma casa. Mas se o governo não tomar algumas medidas, deixaremos a natureza fazer isso. Bem, é uma opção, mas não gostaremos dos resultados. Mas claro, os governos precisam começar primeiro com uma melhor educação. Talvez na Nigéria eles estejam falhando nisso. Uma melhor educação faz as pessoas perceberem que o sexo traz mais filhos, e para sustentar mais filhos, preciso trabalhar.

Muitos governos também recompensam o crescimento populacional com benefícios infantis proporcionais ao número de filhos. Governos populistas adoram isso. Eles querem ajudar todos a ter sua comida no final do dia. Mas muitas famílias inteligentes decidem que terão mais filhos apenas para poder obter mais benefícios. O equilíbrio de ajudar todos a se sustentarem deve ter um limite. Esses programas são importantes, mas talvez devam ter limites.

O equilíbrio de ajudar a família com filhos e restringir seu número é um jogo que sempre precisa ser revisado. Concordo com muitos posts, especialmente dos meus amigos no Canadá e no Brasil, que nesses lugares o governo deveria reduzir sua preocupação com o crescimento populacional e apenas continuar investindo em educação, especialmente em relação à gravidez na juventude. Mas em países como a Nigéria, onde se vê taxas de natalidade acima de 5, é muito preocupante, e o governo deve buscar soluções para reduzir isso.
