One of my biggest culture shocks when I moved to Canada was how conservative the country was in dealing with liquor, and alcoholic drinks. I used to drink beer cans in the streets in Brazil normally. And here I realized that you can't drink it in public in most of the provinces, only in restaurants, bars, and your home. At first was weird for me but I got used to it.

In our second winter in here, we decided to go to Cuba. During the winter they create direct flights to many tropical destinations. It wasn't expensive. When we arrived and exited the airport towards the resort bus, the first thing that we see is many sellers trying to sell dozens of beer cans to the tourists. The Canadian tourists at this moment looked like thirsty people in the middle of the desert buying as many as they could. A weird behavior? No. They are just doing something that they can't do in their country, drink beer anywhere they want.

Alcohol isn't banned in Canada, it is just treated as Marijuana. A legalized drug, but with some rules, plenty of rules. You need a special permit to sell it, controlled by the government and there are restrictions in public places. Of course like Brazil or any other tropical country, it can't be used by minors. Marijuana, alcohol and regular cigarettes should be treated in the same way. All of them can create addictions and can be unhealthy when used too much.

I remember a while ago that I discussed a bit with @terganftp in a post ( I don't remember if it was mine or his) about this topic. We agreed that all of these "social drugs" should be used in a harmonized way like any other prescription drug. We are talking about Ozempic if I remember, but in the end, we discussed a bit about these drugs that we don't buy with him in a pharmacy. Should these drugs be sold in a pharmacy? I don't think so. But maybe a pharmacist should be an employee in a liquor store or marijuana store. Crazy idea? Let's see.

The purpose of the pharmacist is to assess the doctor's prescription and gather the patient's health history. That way the pharmacists can also intervene in the prescription, changing and modifying it. The pharmacist can even talk to the doctor to see if they can manage to change it together. Now, recreational drugs can also interact with medicines, and depending on the health history of the patient can be very bad. Pharmacists in a liquor store for example could deny the selling of liquor to a patient that is taking anti-depressants. Alcohol with these drugs could lead to problems. Of course, you can't control how much beer or liquor would be bought by a person, different from a pharmacy drug. However, just avoiding some mix that could lead to death is something to think about.

People need the freedom to buy these recreational drugs, but also education about them. Cigarette consumption is reduced a lot after heavy education about it. People can use it in moderation. But avoiding lethal mixtures can be something to think about. A total ban isn't worth it unless you want a big revolt. However, Oxycodone should still be sold only in pharmacies to help with some health conditions, but I am very conservative. But alcohol is still a drug, and people who drink it and are against the usage of marijuana should stop and think that maybe they can classified as similar "brothers". Maybe the only difference is the smoke that can bother the other in one case, but still, be aware that both need to be used wisely. Well, I still love my beer during the weekends and unless I can't do it anymore for health problems, I will continue with it.

Um dos meus maiores choques culturais quando me mudei para o Canadá foi como o país era conservador ao lidar com bebidas alcoólicas. Eu costumava beber latas de cerveja nas ruas no Brasil normalmente. E aqui percebi que você não pode beber em público na maioria das províncias, apenas em restaurantes, bares e em casa. No começo foi estranho para mim, mas me acostumei.

No nosso segundo inverno aqui, decidimos ir para Cuba. Durante o inverno, eles criam voos diretos para muitos destinos tropicais. Não foi caro. Quando chegamos e saímos do aeroporto em direção ao ônibus do resort, a primeira coisa que vimos foram muitos vendedores tentando vender dezenas de latas de cerveja para os turistas. Os turistas canadenses naquele momento pareciam pessoas sedentas no meio do deserto comprando o máximo que podiam. Um comportamento estranho? Não. Eles estão apenas fazendo algo que não podem fazer no seu país, beber cerveja em qualquer lugar que quiserem.

O álcool não é proibido no Canadá, ele é tratado como a maconha. Uma droga legalizada, mas com algumas regras, muitas regras. Você precisa de uma licença especial para vendê-la, controlada pelo governo, e há restrições em locais públicos. Claro, como no Brasil ou em qualquer outro país tropical, não pode ser usado por menores de idade. Maconha, álcool e cigarros comuns devem ser tratados da mesma forma. Todos eles podem criar vícios e podem ser prejudiciais quando usados em excesso.

Lembro-me de um tempo atrás que discuti um pouco com @terganftp em um post (não lembro se era meu ou dele) sobre esse tópico. Concordamos que todas essas "drogas sociais" devem ser usadas de forma harmonizada como qualquer outro medicamento prescrito. Estamos falando sobre o Ozempic, se bem me lembro, mas no final discutimos um pouco sobre essas drogas que não compramos em uma farmácia. Essas drogas devem ser vendidas em uma farmácia? Eu não acho. Mas talvez um farmacêutico devesse ser um funcionário em uma loja de bebidas alcoólicas ou de maconha. Ideia maluca? Vamos ver.

O propósito do farmacêutico é avaliar a prescrição do médico e reunir o histórico de saúde do paciente. Dessa forma, os farmacêuticos também podem intervir na prescrição, mudando e modificando-a. O farmacêutico pode até falar com o médico para ver se podem gerenciar a mudança juntos. Agora, drogas recreativas também podem interagir com medicamentos, e dependendo do histórico de saúde do paciente, isso pode ser muito ruim. Farmacêuticos em uma loja de bebidas alcoólicas, por exemplo, poderiam negar a venda de bebidas alcoólicas a um paciente que está tomando antidepressivos. O álcool com esses medicamentos pode causar problemas. Claro, você não pode controlar quantas cervejas ou bebidas alcoólicas uma pessoa compraria, diferente de um medicamento de farmácia. No entanto, apenas evitar alguma mistura que poderia levar à morte é algo a se pensar.

As pessoas precisam de liberdade para comprar essas drogas recreativas, mas também de educação sobre elas. O consumo de cigarros é reduzido muito após uma educação pesada sobre ele. As pessoas podem usar com moderação. Mas evitar misturas letais pode ser algo a se pensar. Uma proibição total não vale a pena a menos que você queira uma grande revolta. No entanto, o Oxycodone deve continuar sendo vendido apenas em farmácias para ajudar com algumas condições de saúde, mas eu sou muito conservador. Mas o álcool ainda é uma droga, e pessoas que bebem e são contra o uso de maconha devem parar e pensar que talvez possam ser classificados como "irmãos" semelhantes. Talvez a única diferença seja a fumaça que pode incomodar o outro em um caso, mas ainda assim, esteja ciente de que ambos precisam ser usados com sabedoria. Bem, eu ainda amo minha cerveja durante os fins de semana e, a menos que eu não possa mais por problemas de saúde, continuarei com isso.
