A hard cut is not always the best way to move from one clip to another. Sometimes a simple transition helps the edit feel much smoother, and Kdenlive makes it easy to add one.

To insert a transition, first place the playhead at the point where you want the transition to appear. As shown in the image, click the Mix Clips button. This instantly creates a transition between the two clips without needing to search through menus.

Once the transition is added, you can select it on the timeline to open its properties. This is where you can fine tune how the transition behaves. You can adjust its duration, change the transition style, and modify other settings to better match your edit.
The default transition works well for many situations, but it is worth experimenting with the available options. A slower transition can create a calm and cinematic feel, while a shorter one keeps the pace quick and energetic.
I usually leave the default settings for simple edits, but when working on tutorials or videos with a slower pace, I spend a little time adjusting the transition properties to make the movement between clips feel more natural.
Transitions should support your story rather than distract from it. Used in the right places, they help connect scenes smoothly and give your videos a more polished and professional look.
