Last week been the Valentine's day on the 14th of February, was quite an eventful one has the valentine periods was buzzing with lots of love from friends, family and lovers. That day I know three people who got engaged to be married in that special day. For the #hivenaijaweekly contest, it has given me a platform to discuss about the events that happened that day, as I have not had time to blog about it. Yes, the valentine season is over but there are definitely highlights from the day that blessed me both spiritually, emotionally and physically.

St valentine's day is a special holiday dedicated to celebrate love in different ways, although, over time some people have different reactions to Valentine's Day as overly commercialized because of the belief that showing love should not have limits or be done in particular dates and others cherish the moments of the day and see it as an opportunity to show love and affection to those who are special to them.

On valentine's day that just passed it was also the beginning 9f the Lenten season for the Catholic faithfuls. Hence, as a Catholic my day started so early in the morning as I had to go for morning mass as early as 6am because it was ash Wednesday. The ash Wednesday is a significant day in the Catholic liturgical calendar because it is the beginning of lent, during lent we carry out several spiritual exercises that includes almsgiving, praying, fasting as a way to prepare fully for the Easter season. So while many where celebrating the Valentine's day, we Catholics had to fast that day and also be constantly reminded of the biblical phrase that says all is vanity. hence we are to "Remember that we are dust, and to dust we shall return".

So after the holy mass and receive the ash on our foreheads everyone went back to their normal activities, those who were to go to work , school, market or back home. Valentine's day is not a public holiday in my country, so everything seemed normal except those that got gifts from their spouses or friends at their work places or wherever.

I came back home, and was indoor through out. I had to abstain eating meat and some other foods. But it was a great day having to see people genuinely showing love on social media, there were lots of gifts , the flower bouquet made with new naira notes was so amazing and skillfully made. We watched a lot of dramas unfold, in girls hostels, on the street and so on. The one on social media I fancied a lot was one done by a content creator called Asherkine, where he came to the streets and putting smiles on the faces of the people by fueling commercial keke napeps, buying food from street vendors and feeding the poor.

This was literally how my valentine day went. It was a good to start building my spiritual life and engaging in stuffs that makes life meaningful.

Thanks for stopping by my blog...
