There is something about midnight that changes the way we think, I don’t know if it’s the silence or the darkness but there’s just something about the midnight that makes things different.
During the day many things happens that makes our minds busy, there is always work to do, lots of messages to reply to, places to go, people to see or check on and responsibilities that constantly fight for our attention.
The day is just a congested hour and we can’t really find solace in it most of the times. From morning till noon we keep moving from one thing to another without giving ourselves some time or enough time to pause or rest but when the world becomes quiet and the lights begin to go out, something interesting happens.
That’s my favourite hour and time of the day because a whole lot of amazing things happens and one very interesting thing is the fact that the people we haven’t thought about in a long time somehow find their way back into our minds, I don’t know if it’s always scripted but yeah, it happens a lot and I can testify to that anytime!

Sometimes it could be an old friend of yours that you lost contact with years ago and he or she just suddenly crawls back into your mind with sweet and loud memories of the last time you were together or moments you shared with each other, some other times it could be a teacher whose words stayed with you longer than they probably imagined, even you. I have spent a reasonable amount of time thinking and reflecting about my old childhood neighbour, how we played almost every hour and get flogged together for not doing chores… wherever he is now I just pray he’s having an easy life cos he made my childhood fun.
Some other times your night could be spent thinking about a relative who moved away, or even someone you only met once but somehow left a lasting impression, well, all im just tryna say is I don’t know why all of this amazing thoughts happens mostly at night.
Or is it just me?It’s very funny how our mind stores people and memories about them without asking for permission.
Sometimes we remember them in details down to their smell, last fragrance, hair cut and all of that when we don’t even choose to remember them.
So far I have observed that the memories simply arrive, mostly when everything around us has finally become silent. What I find even more interesting is that not every midnight memory is painful, we don’t need to cry and soak up the pillow at night just because we remembered something.
Some of those things make us smile because they remind us of simpler days when life was still a bit easier and innocent, this situation also makes us grateful because we realize certain people helped shape who we are today without ever knowing it.The thought of bringing old friends and people into our memories happens because the night removes many of the distractions we carry throughout the day.
We spend so much time focusing on what comes next that we rarely stop to appreciate the people who were once part of our journey but guess what… midnight gives our minds the space to revisit those moments, almost like opening an old photo album that has been sitting quietly on a shelf for years.
The truth is, not everyone who changes your life stays in it forever that’s why we have some people are only meant to be there for a season to teach you something, encourage you, challenge you, make you laugh, or simply remind you that kindness still exists.
Even after life moves on, you’d still feel the impact of those people in your life.
Maybe all of these is why midnight feels different, it isn’t just the absence of noise but I t’s one of the few moments when we stop rushing long enough to notice the people who helped shape our lives, even if they no longer walk beside us.
And to me remembering them isn’t meant to make us sad but it’s simply a reminder to appreciate every person who enters our lives, because we never truly know whose memory we’ll become years from now, or whose memory will unexpectedly visit us before we fall asleep, that’s why I always smile whenever I think about my late mom, she brings so much smile to my face as tho she were still alive.
