Trying out the Inleo editor for making blog posts

I have only used the Inleo editor twice to publish a post to date. Once in the early days of development and then for my last LPUD post. I've used threads a lot and am ok with those, but when it came to posts I was very happy with what I was already using (Hive Blog and PeakD - although to be fair I dont really use Hive Blog much any more), so I didnt have a need to switch over - I was already in a habit that worked for me.

With all the changes happening around Inleo, including the whole Leo-ads aspect, I thought it worth trying again. I know thats a little mercenary, but I do post a number of posts directly to the #leofinance community, so as such when doing that it does make sense to be using the inleo editor in order to get the most out of those posts.

On first glance its not unlike the PeakD interface; side-by-side editing, access to drafts, and a similar layout at the bottom for tags. I do really like the autosave feature (I've been caught out frequently via not saving drafts so this is a welcome feature for someone like me who is likely to make a mistake part way through and loose a lot of work!).

Comparing Peakd and Inleo side-by-side they are very similar. For some reason I find Peakd cleaner to look at - its hard to explain. Maybe its just that my eye is used to looking at Peakd, although there is a little more going on in the inleo editor with things like the side bar icons, and for some reason I find the different fonts in Inleo a little distracting.

To clarify what I mean, in the screen shot above using the Inleo editor, you can see one font is used in the editing window on the left hand side, and a different font is used in the preview window on the right hand side. Now I'm guessing you can probably change that (although I havent tried) but for some reason I find it a little distracting. My brain is telling me that they should look the same, but when I look at them its not. Even looking at Peakd they are not the same, but in Peakd the two fonts are a lot more similar, whereas here in inleo they are quite different. To be fair this is very minor and not something that would put me off using it - I just find it a little odd, and I think thats just a personal thing.

Saving Drafts

Savings drafts is a big feature for me and if it wasnt in place on inleo it would really put me off, so its great to see it. I've played around with it and it seems to work fine. For example I started this post before work this morning, and am now picking it up again after work in the evening and just about everything is as I left it. The one thing I've noticed is that the tags dont get saved. I guess thats just a bug that the devs will get to at some point. Again its not a deal breaker for me, although it would be nice if that was sorted.

One other thing I did not about saving drafts is that there is a button you can click to save your draft all the way at the bottom of the right hand preview window, although it can be off-screen such that you have to scroll down to see it and click it. Now thats not such a big deal, especially if you have auto-save draft enabled (which I will all the time), but it would be nice to see the button on-screen at all times, which helps as a reminder to click save every so often. As said, its not a deal breaker, especially because of auto-save.

I've also had a quick look at the beneficiaries/rewards bits at the bottom, and that all looks fine there too - so thats all good.

Summary

So I havent been using inleo to date, mostly because I was happy with what I was already using, however the leo-ads revenue makes it a bit of a game changer as does the leo upvotes for using Inleo, so I thought I'd give the editor a try and see how things are.

On the whole I have to say its all good. It works well on the whole, apart from the very minor issue with tags not saving on drafts, so I see nothing that would stop me from using it going forward. In fact, I'll be making sure I do use it when I'm posting to the leofinance community, as it would be silly to miss out on the extra potential rewards that can be gained as a result from upvotes and leo-ads (plus I guess ever green is also a potential if you produce the type of posts that could continue to attract views over time). So its a thumbs up from me !

[A lion giving its seal of approval ! I find it hard to produce a leofinance post without dropping in a picture of a lion ! Its just a pity that I cant remember where I found this one. The pic is definitely mine, I just cant remember where I took it]
