Greetings, dear friends of Worldmappin—welcome to my blog. I’m back again in this wonderful community, and I hope everyone is doing well. Today I’m sharing some beautiful photos from my walk along Gualberto Ibrreto Boulevard, located on Carúpano Avenue in the El Peñón neighborhood of Cumaná, Sucre State, Venezuela. It’s not in the city center; it’s practically on the outskirts of the urban area. The El Peñón neighborhood is right across from this boulevard, which is why the area is very busy and heavily trafficked. I tried to take photos so that there wouldn’t be too many people or vehicles in the shots—though I couldn’t avoid them entirely—but the photos still turned out very beautiful and natural.

The first thing you see when you arrive at the boulevard are several sculptures—some depicting the singer being honored, and others representing musical instruments. They may not seem all that striking from a distance, but as you approach the boulevard, the magic begins, offering a beautiful treat for the eyes. I crossed the street and entered the boulevard; I realized that the scenery doesn’t end there—ahead lies a long wall that has served as a canvas for street art, where famous figures, wildlife, and landscapes adorn the murals. The boulevard was inaugurated on December 10, 2025, with the aim of paying tribute to the artistic life of the “people’s singer,” Gualberto Ibarreto. The artist himself was present at the ceremony and performed some of his famous songs.
The site is decorated with enormous monuments and various distinctive elements that symbolize folk music in all its splendor. Since this is a special recreational space designed for relaxing strolls, as well as for promoting cultural events, a large metal structure painted in shades of blue has been installed. It is a shipping container that serves as a food and beverage stand, which also features a terrace or observation deck offering a bird’s-eye view of part of the city.

Another of the monuments on display along the boulevard—which bears the name of the Venezuelan singer and musician born in El Pilar, Sucre State—is a giant sombrero, which, incidentally, is a hallmark of his attire. The place is quite picturesque and cheerful; there we see sculptures of musical instruments and of Gualberto himself, playing his cuatro, both standing and sitting in a hammock. The boulevard is full of vibrant colors; the floors are rustic, made of stamped concrete that mimics the cobblestones typical of colonial areas.
The site features fixed benches for resting, but these aren’t your typical benches—they’re shaped like asterisks and painted olive green, a color that contrasts with the rest of the landscape. Musical elements are present not only in the monuments but also throughout the surrounding area; they look like posts, but they’re actually giant musical notes. Right next to the statue of the town singer in his hammock, wearing his traditional outfit and distinctive hat, the railings aren’t just handrails—if you look closely, you’ll see they form a colossal musical staff.

In addition to the shipping container, uniquely shaped benches, green stars, colorful walkways, and monuments inspired by music, this coastal recreational area features beautiful vegetation that not only lines the paths but also enhances the beauty of the place. Flowers like zinnias immediately evoke a sense of joy, as they are grown in a variety of colors.
The boulevard is truly beautiful, and as I mentioned at the beginning, right along the front, street art complements the landscape. Although the works reflect the city’s culture and history, I want to highlight paintings of illustrious figures from the world of music, such as María Rodríguez, Luis “Mariano” Ribera, Hernán Marín, and Gualberto Ibarreto himself. Among other unforgettable figures who are part of the city’s culture is Francisco “Morochito” Rodríguez, a famous boxer born in Cumaná. We couldn’t leave out “El Enano del Tamarindo,” a beloved local character from Cumaná who sold newspapers in that area for years; today, he remains a cherished figure, even though he wasn’t originally from the city of Cumaná.
